Harang retired Pierre and Dewitt on three pitches to start the game. Kent and Martin followed with back-to-back doubles to make it 1-0 Dodgers. Loney walked. Kemp fielders choice.

1-0 Dodgers after 1/2 inning.

It looked like an easy inning for Harang after retiring the first two on three pitches.

Harang allows a single to Berroa with one out.

And then they do a pitchout on 1-1 with the pitcher batting. That's always a brilliant move to pitchout with the pitcher batting and get your own pitcher behind in the count. And of course he walks the pitcher.

....That's always a brilliant move to pitchout with the pitcher batting and get your own pitcher behind in the count.

So, you are suggesting that you never pitchout? A pitchout almost always puts you behind in the count.

Becuase when you do pitchout, I'd rather you do it with a poor hitter at the plate.

RedsManRick
06-19-2008, 01:16 PM
2nd Inning at bats, by pitch count:

Dodgers
Ethier: 8, Line Out
Berroa: 6, Single
Stultz: 8, BB
Pierre: 3, GIDP
Total: 25 pitches

Reds
Dunn: 2, Single
EE: 1, Pop out
Votto: 3, Line out
Bako: 3, Pop out
Total: 9 pitches

3rd Inning is following a similar strategy. You can say this for Joe Torre teams, they know how to take a pitch and wear out an opposing starter. Clearly Dusty isn't watching.

CTA513

You're right. It's not just the bad 1-2 combos we've seen, or the automatic 7-8-9 like tonight, but the entire lineup - seems as if there is never more than one of the 3-4-5-6 hitters that is hot but always 2 or 3 who are stone cold.

Only 1 person it today's lineup has more than 300 career PA and an OPS north of .800. Yeah, the guys are cold across the board. But the reality is also that it's just not a great lineup.

I skipped the game today because I couldn't take it anymore. I jsut got through reading the game thread. It looks like the pathetic hitting rubbed off on Harang to the point even he isn't reliable. Sad.

That said, the position players batted 22-95 in this series (.230). The horrible list is Cabrarra (0-8), Janish (0-3), Bruce (2-12), Dunn (2-9), and Edwin (2-11). We were 6-22-0 (avg of 2-7-0) and the Dodgers were 16-30-2 (avg of 5-10-1). Sad.

The famed pitching looked like 2006. Starters went 18.1 innings from our No 2, No. 3 and No. 4 pitchers, giving up 22 hits and 13 ER. ERA = ablut 6.40. The relief corps was better in 8.2 innings, allowing only 3 runs. ERA = 3.20.

Harang and Arroyo pitched 11 innings of 17-hit, 11-run ball. Are you kidding me?

Yes, this club is improving alright. They batted .230 in the series and the pitching had an ERA of 5.33. And you wonder why they're not winning.

At this rate, the Reds will finish 72-90 and for the second consecutive season! You can blame Dusty or the hitting coach or whomever you want, but the sad tale is this is not a good club.
