Dunn strikes out looking. 2 outs.

Patience at the dish is ok, but only to a point.

Screwball

Shew. Volquez grooved a 3-1 fastball but luckily Rios didn't get under it quite enough and harmlessly lines out to Dunn.

Reds Fanatic

Wells grounds into a 6-4 FC. 0-0 after 1.

Screwball
06-26-2008, 07:21 PM
Volquez a little wild in that inning but no harm done. 15 pitches in the 1st.

RedlegJake
06-26-2008, 07:22 PM
New gameday 3D is kind of cool. Volquez is missing low a lot but he's thrown a couple at the belt and got away with it with a fly and grounder.

Reds Fanatic
06-26-2008, 07:24 PM
Votto strikes out looking. 2 outs.

RedlegJake
06-26-2008, 07:25 PM
Litsch threw three great pitches to Votto. That first slider was perfect, and he got Joey chasing a big curve that broke out of the zone low for strike two.

Reds Fanatic
06-26-2008, 07:26 PM
Keppinger grounds out to short. A 10 pitch inning. 0-0 mid 2nd.

RedlegJake
06-26-2008, 07:26 PM
Kepp grounds to ScooterO

Screwball
06-26-2008, 07:27 PM
I'm impressed with this Litsch guy so far. Good break on all his pitches, keeping the ball down with good control. With the way the Reds have been struggling to score runs, they're gonna have their hands full tonight.

Fortunately though, our guy isn't too bad himself.

I don't know what it was but I just had a feeling Volquez was going to have a bad start and it's looking like it's true.

Can't walk guys after you get ahead 0-2.

CTA513
06-26-2008, 07:32 PM
Wouldn't have been as bad if he didn't walk Stairs after getting ahead 0-2.

RedlegJake
06-26-2008, 07:32 PM
Again, he's up in the zone, homer on a pitch right down the pike just above the knees.

I think if I lived in Toronto I'd boo Dunn too. Some of his remarks seemed a bit of a slam on Canada - I think he meant them for Ricciardi and not disparaging Canadians but it sounded that way. That's the problem with responding to a personal attack - it can be taken wrong and backfire on you.

I remember Marty alluding to the Fielding Bible when the Astros were in town for a weekend series during the early part of '06. Marty was saying something to the effect that he doesn't care what numbers are spit out by stats, he'd take Lopez' bat over Everett's glove any day of the week.

Also, in Dick Pole's defense, perhaps he did see it but it isn't that easy to correct. I know the last time I took a lesson from a pro for my golf swing he noticed a problem right away but it took me a lot of time and practice to work it out of my swing. Sometimes it's not as easy as saying, "Oh hey, you're doing this wrong. Stop doing that," and everything's fixed, especially in the middle of a game.

Perhaps (emphasis on perhaps) this is something Volquez is going to have to work out of, much like Harang is trying to do right now.
