I have a scoring question on the double play to end the bottom of the first. Does Keppinger get two assists, or only one? Also, I assume that Phillips gets both a putout and an assist. Is that right?

double steal attempt Votto out at third. Kepp to 2nd. 1 down

Bruce follows the muffed steal with a single. Kepp to 3rd.

I don't think it was a steal attempt as much as an attempt to advance on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, it bounced right back to Fasano.

You're right but it scores as a CS. They ran themselves out of this inning with a bit of bad luck but they need to capitalize when Byrd is going so badly. These guys lack a killer instinct when the pitcher is on the ropes.

I've seen enough of Paul Janish. He needs to play regularly at Louisville for a while. I think that Keppinger will eventually slide back over to SS when the soreness in his knee subsides, or when Encarnacion is ready to return to 3B (whichever comes first).

ESPN reported today that baseball was "considering" increasing its standards on inspection and on player modification - like shaving down handles. No outright ban on maple was likely until after the season because not enough ash bats could be produced to meet demand on short notice. So. Yes. They're going to wait until someone gets impaled and killed or seriously injured and they have a multi million dollar settlement to face before they'll act. If Johnny and Edinson have one weakness it's that they seem to lose focus and always walk the worst hitters in the lineup like Sal Fasano. That guy should have been an easy out. A nice slider or change probably K's him but Johnny tried to throw six straight fastballs past him. Poor pitch selection.

Did you see him in the dugout? Dude's pissed.

Bray allows a double off the wall to Sizemore. Fasano holds at third. It looks like that walk will come back and hurt Cueto.

He walks a bit too many, but yes, he does get strikeouts (8.63 K/9) and he doesn't give up HRs (0.38 HR/9).

However, you're correct in saying he gets hit too hard. 28% LD rate against him is way too high.

He has command trouble - sometimes he throws strikes down the middle and up instead of hitting corners and keeping it down. Always has. If he ever gets his command down so he keeps the ball low he'll be consistently good. Big if, though, lots of guys you can say that about.

Fielding percentage .983
Range Factor 2.76
Zone Rating .925

Batting:
Average: .189
OBP: .222

Fancy statistics notwithstanding, I know what I see. When he gets the ball up (which is often), those are hard hits. His saving grace is he usually faces only a batter or two and someone bails him out.

I hope he improves and maybe he will

The only thing he needs to work on is his control. He misses bats and keeps the ball in the ballpark. He's pitching good right now but he's got a chance to be a major stud if he can command his stuff better.

Well, I know the Indians have some key guys on the DL and are struggling this year, but keep in mind they did go to the ALCS just last season. In fact, they had the eventual WS champs down 3 games to 2 until, of course, they ran into Josh Beckett and a tough Boston offense in games 6 and 7.

As you know, Patterson has a history of producing down in the order, I should say out of the lead off, and I wouldn't be surprised, and I am sure that you wouldn't be either if Patterson became one of the more productive players on the team batting down in the order in contrast to leading off, he certainly has the fielding skills.
