Phillips should bat higher in the order where he is less likely to hit with runners on base.

He doesn't have the OBP skills to hit higher in the order. Phillips should be a sixth place hitter, not as consistent as the middle of the order guys but occasionally hitting the long ball or getting hotfor awhile.

On a real good team he might hit seventh.

I don't like to debate batting orders, I think they don't make that much difference. If the team has good hitters it will score runs.

But having said that, EE should hit second on this team. His power is overrated but his OBP skills are underrated. Phillips should hit lower; EE higher. Neither is a clean up hitter, which they need to acquire.

Nice job Jerry. The Reds defense is downright embarrassing.

Give Hairston a break. Just a freak play. They gave Hairston an error which is tough. Meanwhile ball was hit very hard, Arroyo should depart after this hitter no matter what he does.

Is that a sliding error on Hairston, or was he trying to make a flying tackle? ;)

When Arroyo was acquired the biggest concern was his low/ declining K rate.
That turned around dramatically the last two years, and his overall results have went backwards as well.

This year he is pushing the top 10 again in the NL for k's....yet can do nothing else. Is he focusing too much on getting k's as opposed to being the proficient pitcher he was back in 05?

Question -- Reds now go home with no DH to face a bunch of lefties. Don't they need to keep Hairston in the lineup? If so, with EE back, the spot for Hairston is in the outfield.

Do you sit Griffey or Bruce against the lefties to let Hairston play? Or do you go with Votto, Dunn, Griffey and Bruce (and occasionally Bako) all lefties against the lefty pitchers.

I would find room for Hairston because the team is much better with Hairston and Kepp playing against the lefties.
