I wonder what Votto would do with some protection in the order.

I wonder what Votto would do with some protection in the order.

Why wonder? We know he would hit better. But god forbid the worst hitter in our lineup (that isn't a catcher/pitcher) hit anything but third.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Dusty and JB rapped about it last night and were spot on. This team simply won't be making serious moves with that guy in the 3 hole.

Here's a scouting report on McClung:

McClung has some nasty stuff as he can gas his fastball and his curve is really nice but he has no out pitch against lefties and his stuff translates into roughly neutral batted ball tendencies (i.e. he's not a ground ball inducing machine). What's more, while I wouldn't attach much meaning to it, McClung hasn't pitched very well at home this season either.

Basically McClung will tend to fire heat while mixing in a combination of his nice curve and slider to emasculate right-handed hitters. Against lefties he'll use his four seamer less, work away with a slower splitter and mix in his curve (breaks into a lefty).

Phillips will struggle against him but Baker should load his lineup with lefties.

It was originally posted in a thread where reds44 called Dunn's shot...

B&B giving Dusty heck for for the "designated sitter" as they called it. Hairston and Kepp 1-2 are 6-0 yet Dusty keeps rotating them. They also lambast him for hitting Junior 3rd and said if he is serious about getting back in it he should quit protecting feelings and start putting the best team on the field each night. "I just don't get it" Marty says.

I don't think it was a bad idea.....to send Jerry. Bruce had been hitting better, making contact. He has been laying off the low stuff and the turns around and strikes out on a very high pitch. Hopefully that is not another hole he has

A couple problems with pulling him now.

Firstly, Only Bray is warming up (for Fielder), and I don't like the matchup of Hardy vs. the LH pitcher.

And even if Burton was warming, I don't like the idea of burning Burton for one batter if Hardy reaches. I ceertainly want Bray vs. Fielder.

No way they take out the defense up 3-2.

The Reds have only lost 1 game all year when leading after 7. I don't sacrifice defense at this stage.

It really makes you wonder if something is wrong with Burton. Not using him last night was strange enough. I can't believe they won't use him here.

Big hit by Junior to right. 4-2 Reds!

Hairston to CF Kepp to SS. How does that sacrifice the defense?

It takes one of your better defensive players out of the game(Bruce).

Bruce will likely play right, Patterson will go to CF, Hairston stays at SS.

Kepp should be no where close to any defensive manoveur.
