Unbelievable. Cueto was filthy that inning, just filthy. That may have been the most impressive inning by a Reds pitcher this decade.

He blew a 95 mph fastball past Reyes. Got Chavez to chase a slider that bounced two feet in front of the plate and then painted two beautiful fastballs on both corners to get ahead of Wright 0-2, then got him to chase a nasty slider in the dirt. That gives Cueto exactly 100 strikeouts on the season.

The Mets announcers always have some crap to say about other teams.
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that one of the announcers and Reyes almost got in a fight because of something he said on air about Reyes?

After falling behind 3-1 on Delgado you make him chase something and try to make him get himself out. Don't give him something decent to hit with a right hander on deck. Geez.

OnBaseMachine
07-17-2008, 08:53 PM
Cueto was locating everything the first two or three innings but he completely lost command the last two innings and has paid for it. Walking a sub .700 OPS hitter to begin an inning is just asking for trouble.

Beltran popped out to end the inning.

Valentin may not be great or even good against RH....but the other guy has not seen major league pitching in a while.

Yes...it was bad guessing (BIG surprise that a Reds hitter guesses)...but he can still work the count pretty good when he wants to.

LOL....Grande....SS is not a K machine...Brantley even said he did not have that many strikeouts. Jeepers what a dolt.

I sometimes wonder if George is even a baseball guy... I know he has been in it a long time, but he could just be a good speaker that happens to make a lot of money calling games... He just makes statements that are utterly crazy sometimes...

Next time you read a thread about how worthless Javy is, how he's really not a good pinch hitter, how he can't hit righty (he hardly gets a chance, actually), how the Reds should just dump him -- remember that at bat. Thank you.

KC.....Javy can come through from time to time....but i still feel there are better options around the majors...to get.

Not JV fault that he is the best PH option on a weak bench...but he would only be a No. 2 or 3 option if Patterson and Phillips were not on this team.

Weathers for one inning should be ok. He's pitched well when given a little rest and confined to one inning. Dusty probably should get Cordero up just in case. He can get four outs for Reds if needed.

Those numbers mean little. Javy has never played regularly. He often pinch hits against tough relievers in the late innings. He's often called upon after several days of inactivity.

He's a guy who very often hits the ball hard in key spots. He's been a good contributor to the Reds and, frankly, I generally shut off RedsZone when people fail to appreciate his contributions.

Same way I feel about Weathers, regardless of the outcome tonight.

If I ran a contender I would definitely go for Weathers. But I don't see the Reds getting a meaningful return. I'd rather let him pitch out the season than give Stormy away.

I assumed Stormy would retire after this year, but he's done very well lately. He won't be a Red next year, but who knows if he will catch on with somebody for one more go around.

Unless he decides to retire or the wheels come completely off someone will give him a spot on their 40 man next year.
