Hey! That's 3 posters! Let's find one more and we can play cards!

Dunner is some kind of en fuego.

Back to back shots for Dunn and Encarnacion.

3rd homer of the inning, 4th of the game for the Reds.

RedlegJake

BP walks, gets caught stealing, Dunn homers #31

Kc61
07-30-2008, 09:36 PM
Now EE with a homer.

Too bad Reds waited all these games to score some runs against he Astros.

Still, I'd like to see about 16 tonight.

RedlegJake
07-30-2008, 09:37 PM
Sorry I was late guys, grandkids birthday party and no way out...especially for these Reds lately...

RedlegJake
07-30-2008, 09:38 PM
Now Votto gets on...man do they seem to put in all in one game...

Hard to believe that not a single contending team could have benefitted from Dunn's 1100+OPS, 12HR month of July. ;) So many GM's are too obtuse to fathom. Their loss would be our gain, if we had managed to extend Dunn as we should have long ago.

I think AL teams should be paying attention to Jr's 1.000+ OPS in July as well.

EV with a bit of a rocky inning, but ends it quickly. He's at 79 through 5 w/ 5 k's. Hopefully he can get a solid 7, and then hand it over to the pen. Day off tomorrow, should be an easy finish tonight.

RedlegJake
07-30-2008, 09:53 PM
I think its simply no one is offering a return that the Reds think is worth it...going to be interesting to see how Jocketty turns this around if no one wants what the Reds have

Lee has really made Volquez work tonight.

1st AB: 8 pitches
2nd AB: 7 pitches
3rd AB: 11 pitches

26 of the 93 pitches Volquez has thrown have been to Lee.

VR
07-30-2008, 10:10 PM
Sheesh. EV gets Tehotta and Redskiller in 3 pitches, then Carlos Lee fouls off about 30 pitches before popping up.

93 pretty easy pitches tonight, I'd suspect he'll head out for the 7th

VR
07-30-2008, 10:25 PM
.144 average for Bako over his last 125 ab's. Amazin.

I'm only following the game on gamecast and audio...but EE really must be locked in right now. Man it would be nice to get Dunn/ EE at 3-4 right now.

Why isn't EV throwing the changeup?

That's 2 garbage calls against the Reds tonight. Votto did NOT come off the bag when the ump says he was pulled off. And Phillips CLEARLY beat that throw on the steal of second earlier.

Another error keeps the inning alive for the Astros and makes it 8-2 Reds.

_Sir_Charles_
07-30-2008, 10:32 PM
Kepp drops the ball on the switch from his glove. 8-2 Reds. 2 errors on jeff this inning (one actually...but the official scorer will still say 2)

VR
07-30-2008, 10:33 PM
Oof. 2 e's in the inning. Hopefully someone is up in the pen. Concerning though that EV couldn't put the .196 hitting Quintero away with 4 straight 0-2 pitches being fouled off.

_Sir_Charles_
07-30-2008, 10:34 PM
Edinson at 108 pitches right now. This should be it ..... um... nevermind. 3 run shot. 8-5

CTA513
07-30-2008, 10:34 PM
8-5 after Volquez has to try and get 5 outs instead of 3.

_Sir_Charles_
07-30-2008, 10:35 PM
That's a shame. He should've been out of this inning already. I hate our defense.

Or Really Dunn, Jr. and EE. They have all been great in July. OPS's of 1.066, .941 and .960 for July before tonights game. Any order with the three of them filling 3 4 and 5 would be nice.

Good point. Ross is actually at .962 for the month, wouldn't mind him getting 80% of the starts either.

They showed one replay and we could not tell at all from the angle they showed whether or not Votto came off. And Votto didn't argue at all.

Lincoln finishes off just a spectacular July as well, on the heels of a 2.18 June.

14 innings
14 k's
5 hits
4 bb's
0 runs.

Crazy.

His WHIP for the year is now at 1.01.

I'm watching FSN Houston and they had 3 different angles. Even the Houston announcers said he didn't come off the bag. It was pretty clear. As was the Phillips call.

Boy, I hate it when the reds do this. They put in a weeks worth of hits all in one game and then go to sleep at the plate for the rest of the week. *sigh* Phillips with another single.

_Sir_Charles_
07-30-2008, 11:02 PM
Phillips swipes second....and then gives 3rd a thought due to the switch being on. I'm amazed that more players don't look to do that like Brandon does.

It's almost ironic that the board went down when the Reds went through one of their "offensive bursts." They so rarely happen, it's a shame we couldn't have had a positive game thread for a change, but I understand what was going on and thank Boss and GIK for having this forum.

Even with a win the Reds badly needed, the flaws showed through tonight. Tonight was a textbook example of what a good shortstop could mean to the Reds. Kepp is a special guy, but he's no shortstop. Both of those errors were on balls we see played every day and it resulted in 3 runs. I hope the long term plan is not JK at short. Surely it's not.

Overall, Volquez pitched well and only made two mistake pitches in the 6+ innings he pitched. The bullpen continued to do well (although Cordero really makes me nervous) and the bats came alive. It was a good night.

Now, on to Washington where we face Perez, one of our nemesises in the first game.

Huge night for Dunn. Teams would be crazy to not trade for him. The Reds would be crazy to let him walk.

It was great to see Volquez bounce back with a great outing. It should have been one run in seven innings but Keppinger single handedly gave the Astros four runs. I like him but he's not a major league shortstop. Hopefully the Reds can a young SS to replace Kepp.

_Sir_Charles_
07-31-2008, 07:05 PM
Yes, Kepp made an error. He was transferring the ball from the glove to the throwing hand and dropped it. It happens. Heck, it happens to the BEST shortstops. The other "error" attributed to Kepp that inning was an umpiring error. They said his throw pulled Votto off the bag. It didn't. It was nowhere close to off the bag. Bad call.
