The Reds need a good center fielder.

NC Reds
08-05-2008, 07:20 PM
Let Dickerson get his cup of coffee rather than play Patterson, who clearly should be in AAA somewhere.

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 07:21 PM
Goodness. Volquez retired the first two batters on 5 pitches and then allowed a double, intentionally walked Fielder, and Hart hit a 2-run triple. 2-0 Brewers after 1/2 inning. Reds pitchers can never get that third out. It looked like Volquez was going to breeze through that inning.

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 07:23 PM
The Reds strategies never work, or so it seems. Everytime they put a shift on the batter seems to beat it and then they intentionally walk Fielder in the first inning and it comes back to bite them.

NC Reds
08-05-2008, 07:29 PM
Phillips gets bailed out there by Hardy. C'mon Adam!

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 07:29 PM
Why in the world does Phillips continue to bat 4th?!?

He was ahead 1-0 and swung at two straight pitches two inches off the ground and should have grounded into a DP if not for a bobble by Hardy.

flyer85
08-05-2008, 07:29 PM
a gift as the SS bobbles a sure DP off the bat of BP

BTW, none of the three pitches to BP was a strike

Dunn HBP to load the bases for EdE.

NC Reds
08-05-2008, 07:32 PM
Great slide by EdE.

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 07:33 PM
Counsell saves a 3-run double but EdE beats the throw for a RBI single. 2-1 still loaded for Patterson.

NC Reds
08-05-2008, 07:34 PM
Why throw Corey a strike? He swings regardless.

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 07:34 PM
And of course Patterson swings at a first pitch fastball a foot high and a foot outside and flies out. Good grief. Yeah, Chris Dickerson couldn't do a better job than that.

Blitz Dorsey
08-05-2008, 07:34 PM
I couldn't even begin to tell you how much I despise Corey Patterson. OK, I guess I could begin to tell you.

CTA513
08-05-2008, 07:35 PM
Everyone should have already expected him to do that.

Blitz Dorsey
08-05-2008, 07:36 PM
BTW, Corey could have gone after what turned out to be a triple for Hart a little harder. He pulled up on that ball. Uh, Corey, don't worry about protecting your body pal. Go all out. I think the Reds will be OK in the event you happen to get hurt. Well, maybe not OK, but they won't miss you.

NC Reds
08-05-2008, 07:38 PM
There is something fundamentally unserious about any organization that gives Corey Patterson this many at bats.

Blitz Dorsey
08-05-2008, 07:38 PM
I'm thinking someone like Aaron Rowand wouldn't have pulled up on that ball. But then again, we're supposed to be believe the horribly-hitting Patterson is on the team due to his excellent glove. LOL.

Volquez K's Cameron and Kendall and gets Bush to ground out.

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 07:56 PM
Volquez allows a lead off single in the third but gets Hardy to GIDP. He fooled Braun on two changeups and then threw him a fastball and he lines a single to LF.

why are they talking to this guy from north carolina:confused:

Lack of Reds offense.

When I was a kid, there was a poll taken in a Raleigh paper that indicated the Reds were the most popular team in the circulation area. This was back when the Braves were horrible. Once Atlanta started to win their bandwagon filled up quickly.

There are still some good Reds fans in this state.

OnBaseMachine
08-05-2008, 08:08 PM
What a frustrating pitching staff. Volquez had Hart 0-2, made him look awful on the previous changeup, so what does Bako call for? A 0-2 curveball, his third best pitch and Hart hammers it off the wall. The quicker these three catchers are the gone the better.

Blitz Dorsey
08-05-2008, 08:09 PM
So in addition to being a horrible hitter he's a whimp. It just keeps getting better with C-Patt.

This is becoming a joke... Is it really that hard to realize Corey Patterson stinks? I mean c'mon, even in little league baseball the coach tries to find a way to play the worst player the least... Is it that much to ask?? Bring up Dickerson and let him play center every night until Hairston is back... see what the guy can do! It's just really frustrating to sit here in my house and feel like I can realize something before an MLB front office can!

I'm stunned he's still up here. Flat out stunned. Once Jocketty made the decision to send him down to Louisville they only brought him up due to injuries. Why is he still here? Why?

Couldn't agree more on getting Dickerson up. At this point in the year, let the young guys play. Let Homer pitch. Let Volquez learn from his mistakes. Let Matt Maloney get a chance.

This is where you are completely off base. The only reason EV had success early this year was because Bako was his personal catcher. The reasons for EV's struggles lately are EV's fault, because Bako is a savvy vet that came to Cincy only because the Duster can attract quality talent to Cincy.

Don't let the 10 teams in 10 years, or being 36 years old, or 2008 being the 3rd most games he's played in a year in his career (and it's only August), or his .420 OPS over the last 3 months fool you......this man is critical to the success of the Reds, and should be getting most of the workload.

pffffft.

Nah, there's a lot more entertaining to do than watch the Reds these days.

You know, even when we lost 90+ games over the last 8 years, at least the Reds hit well and you just never knew if they would come back. This team is so emasculated now that once the other team scores 4 runs, you're pretty much sure that the game is over and you can do something else.

The great pitching predicted by most has morphed into a very below average staff with the trials of Volquez (lately), Cueto, Arroyo, and Harang. The lights-out closer we thought we had is human after all. Volquez and Cueto will improve, but this year it's so boring that once the game is over (when the opposition has a four run lead), it's easier to just do something else and that's sad.

Hard to understand how they all could become so mediocre at once, I am suspicious of the instructions that they receive from pitching improvements, to the one calling the pitches, to those batting tips from the staff. I wish Jocketty would just clean house in the off season.
