He's tired. Not unusual for that to happen to a rookie in his first year at the ML level. Remember - he spent the majority of last year at AA, plus played some winter ball before they shut him down.

Not that it matters, but I got a couple of memos to the Reds tonight.

Try more righty bats against a lefty pitcher. All these lefty batters against Wolf may not be wise. I assume Bruce is fully set in right field so the only alternative in center is now Patterson. Won't lead to a lot of offense against Wolf.

This umpire doesn't seem to believe in call strikes. So perhaps taking a few pitches may be helpful.

Now back to this fabulous baseball game.

Cordero stinks.

Why on earth does/did he have the reputation of being a high calibre closer?

I didn't think that he really had that reputation. He lost the closer's job in Texas in 2006 after blowing 9 saves in 15 chances with a 4.81 ERA.

Traded to Milwaukee late in the season in 2006, he improved dramatically, much like Arroyo did when he first moved over. Then in 2007, he had his career year, coincidentally in his walk year. He converted 44 out of 51 save apportunities, and had a 2.98 ERA. But even in 2007 there were warning signs: His ERA in Miller Park was 1.08, and on the road it was 5.40.

I think the league has caught up to him. Tonight won't even count as a blown save, since the game was tied when he came in. Still, he lost this game, and has raised his ERA from the 2.20 level to 3.90 level since the break. Scary.
