Ok, this is my very first lineup complaint in the six-ish years I've been here....

There is absolutley no reason Chris Dickerson should not be back in the lineup and leading off.

I don't mind that much because Dickerson struggles against lefties but what ticks me off is guys like Cabrera, Keppinger, and Andy Phillips continue to play over Adam Rosales.

Exactly. Dickerson sitting is fine, in fact I even like Dusty's reasoning behind it....per Fay: "Chris Dickerson won't play against all left-handers. He hit .300 vs. RHP and .247 against LHP at Louisville. "I'm trying to protect him some and keep his confidence," Dusty Baker said. "You want to put him in a position to succeed. He'll play tomorrow."

But what's Adam got to do to get a start? Sheesh! Does anybody seriously believe that Andy Phillips or Jolbert Cabrera have more of a future with the Reds than Rosales does? Not a chance.

Heh.

I knew Bruce's impatience would result in him swinging at something he couldn't drive resulting in a ground ball, but I agree. It might have happened with the next batter, too.

I have a bit of a Harvey Dent complex when it comes to Patterson.
As he is a Red, I want to see him succeed to help the ball club. Seeing the home run was a good thing for that side.
But, on the other side, part of me knows that the home run presents the chance that he will be continually seen by at least Dusty as the center field answer.

Fogg is horrible? Ummm...he's allowed 4 hits and 2 runs in 5 innings. That's far from a poor outing. In fact I'd say he's been pretty damned good tonight. But it's pretty obvious he's running out of gas. As long as you're not expecting 7 or 8 innings out of him, he's holding his own. Once he reaches five innings, you've got to have a quick hook. If there is more damage this inning, it's Dusty's fault IMO. He should've been pulled after the 4 pitch walk.

He never did get to 5 innings, and his runs are growing by the second, 4 now and counting, he's lucky it's not 6 yet.

Now we have a choice: we can wish for another dinger and a tie ball game from CP--knowing this will mean he plays every day for the rest of the season--or we can hope he goes quietly and we take our chances again next inning.

CP has had plenty of chances to play himself out of that spot already. If he hasn't its because it wont happen. Just root for the team and don't think too much. :).

Fogg has been a starter his whole career.

He's not a guy who blows hitters away for a few innings and then struggles. He's just not very good.

You can argue he should be used, but he hasn't been misused.

Yes, I know he has been. Wow, I'm just not typing clearly or something tonight. :O) Sorry. He SHOULD be used as a long man out of the pen. He SHOULD have been pulled after the 4 pitch walk. With the injuries and such to our staff right now, I have no problem with them using him as a starter...but he should be watched VERY closely when he's in there. He tends to lose his stuff after 4 or 5 innings....well, maybe not his 'stuff' but rather his concentration.

LOL. Hard to argue with that. Only one thing to say about that is this...he's already getting paid, and we're already pushing Volquez & Cueto farther than they're used to...so if we don't have capable people ready to pick up some innings from Louisville...then I say we keep him around to eat innings. Will we lose those games? Sure, but I'd rather not risk our real pitchers' arms in a lost season.

2 things.
1. Rosales should get a start.
2. I'm hoping Livingston will take up some of those Sept. innings--agree completely that priority number one is to keep the innings down on Cueto and Volquez.

Good point about Livingston. I forgot about him. He's been throwing the ball very well lately.

His last outting (on the 10th I believe)...."Bobby Livingston went 7 shutout innings, walked 2, allowed 5 hits and he struck out 6."~per Doug's site.

I'm just guessing that Rosales will go back to AAA when Votto returns. The Reds called up Hanigan and Dickerson for the rest of the season IMO. But Rosales came up, I'd guess, for a short time to replace Votto on the roster.

I'm not sure Rosales has had the sustained success at AAA as yet.

That wouldn't surprise me, but I hope you're wrong. His stats at Louisville have earned him a shot IMO though.

112 games / 409 ab's / 64 r / 115 h / 28 2b / 10 hr / 53 rbi / 22 bb / 78 k's / 6 sb / 1 cs / .281 batting av. / .335 obp / .457 slg / .792 ops

That's more than solid enough to warrent a good long look at him the rest of the year IMO.

A 6 pitch 9th inning for the Reds. Bruce and Phillips both fly out on the first pitch.

All in all, Maholm threw 97 pitches in 8 innings, and Grabow threw 6 in the 9th. The Reds lose seeing only 103 pitches. The opposing pitcher only had to throw 11.4 pitches per inning tonight.

We are not going to win many games where we hack away like that. Now, with Adam Dunn and his league leading P/PA numbers gone, opposing teams can give their bullpens the night off.

The best Reds in OBP and P/PA were Dunn, Ross, and Griffey.(Hairston is high in OBP too) They are gone. This team will not win until it recognizes the importance of getting runners on base.

* 7th time this year that the REDS have had no walks in a game.
> 2007 season: 8 times.
> 2006 season: 5 times.
> 2005 season: 3 times.

* Last time the REDS were 20 or more games back was the end of the 2005 season. That was 445 games ago.

About the only thing Hopper can do is bunt. IMO Patterson is far and away a better defensive outfielder than Hopper.
