Is anyone watching the "game show" on the Reds Live pregame show? There was a college kid on there just now and they gave him some of the easiest questions possible and he still missed them. The first question was who played second base for the Reds during the Big Red Machine World Series years. The four answers were Barry Larkin, Pokey Reese, Joe Morgan, and I believe the fourth was Tommy Helms. Dude said Tommy Helms but Jim Day corrected him and gave him another chance. Next question was who once hit 52 homeruns in a season for the Reds. The answers were George Foster, Barry Larkin and two others. Another easy question that any Reds fan should know...but not this guy. His answer was Larkin.

Sheesh.

Is Patterson an everyday player now? Sniffing the Mendoza line is sufficient for playing time I guess.

He should have been cut months ago. If you leave a bad player on the roster that Dusty likes, he will play him.

I liked Chris Welsh's comment that the Reds better be looking for offense in the next draft. That's, of course, a little over the top, but the truth remains that all this emphasis on pitching has left the Reds with an emasulated club offensively.

And have you ever seen two guys struggle as much as Jay Bruce and Edwin Encarnacion lately? Wow, they look clueless.

Wow, they look clueless.

yeah, bako, patterson, homer, maj all say hi ;)

At a minimum, a player taken in the '09 draft won't reach the majors until 2011-12, so I think this is fairly silly. The Reds need to draft the best prospects they can, offense or pitchers and go from there.

Just what I figured, the crappy Cardinal bullpen comes in and shuts down the Reds offense.

Dickerson is 1 extra base-hit away from tying the MLB record for most extra base-hits to start a career before your first single... what a stat!

Awful atbat by Valentin. Swings at a slider that almost hit, takes a hanging slider, and then chases high heat.

And now EdE chases a pitch down and away and then takes a belt high fastball for a strike.

Edwin, like Valentin, didn't swing at a strike the whole atbat.

The Cardinals scrubby bullpen shuts the Reds down.

Why is that over the top? It's dead on.

But what's doubly sad is that the Reds are still really thin on pitching. It just seems endless.

Because anyone drafted wouldn't contribute for 3-4 years.

Cardinals pitching staff...

All Games except REDS 2008
4.23 ERA, 1.41 WHIP

In 7 Games vs. REDS 2008
2.76 ERA, 1.03 WHIP

The offense. Makes most pitchers better (statistics and mentally). Need confidence boost on the mound? Face the team from Cincinnati.

30 games this year with 5-hits or less. Averaging a 5-hit or less game once every 4 games. Record is 3-27 in those games. Pitching (mostly starters, 5.26 ERA) ain't cutting it, but the hitting is woeful.
