So much for Dickerson not playing vs. lefties, not that I am complaining especially because Corey isn't playing.

Hilarious. 3 straight low and outside breaking pitches to Phillips. 3 swinging strikes. Why he ever sees anything else is beyond me.

Lilly through two on 19 pitches with 3 strikeouts. You're looking at the NL Central version of the Giants or Mariners.

Give the Cubs scouts credit. They told Harden and Lilly that this team could not hit off speed and breaking balls, so give them a steady diet of them. I also imagine the scounting report mentioned the fact that our hitters will swing at anything.

Right, which means Lilly needs to pick up the pace and close in on 21.

It's not out of the question, based on this exhibition in free swinging.

I didn't realize he was also right at .700 in night games as well......in which he as twice as many ab's as day games....where he's ops'ing 1.016.

And Lilly goes 7 innings as well with only 2 hits, 8 Ks and 2 BBs (Arroyo had 5 walks). More Ks, less hits allowed and less walks allowed than Bronson.

At this point, however, Arroyo stands to get the win and Lilly the loss. Isn't baseball a funny game sometimes?

Bronson Arroyo, whose gutty pitching kept the Reds in a game they normally would have lost (and thanks to their defense didn't) -- says that now comes the chance to take two of three from the Cubs by winning a day game Thursday at Wrigley Field.

"These guys (the Cubs) are pretty much playing (loose), running away with this thing for awhile, got a pretty good little cushion, so they're up they're hacking," Arroyo said.

Arroyo said he didn't feel he had to be perfect, but knew he couldn't give up much. The Reds won 2-1.

Would you believe that coming into Wednesday's game the Reds record when they score less than three runs was 1-39?

It's true.

Uncork the good stuff, Mabel, let's have a party. The Reds are now 2-39 when they score less than three.

"I knew we weren't going to put up a lot against (Cubs starter Ted) Lilly," Arroyo said, whose record went to 11-10 copared to Lilly's 12-7.

"I thought the umpires missed a couple of pitches that cost me a couple walks that got me into some jams," Arroyo said. "They (the Cubs hitters) weren't squaring up the ball against me at all today, but they found some holes and got me in some trouuble. I felt like once I got out of those (early) innings I'd have a chance to maybe set a decent number of guys down in a row."

He got nine in a row, and 10 of 11.
