Why waste at bats/innings on dreck like Patterson, Majewski, etc. Dickerson should be in CF with Rosales in LF. Gotta keep the little girl happy I guess.

Dusty said a few days ago he was going to start Rosales in one of the Cubs games. Turns out he lied.

"I'll try to work him in the right situation, right time and right place," Baker said. "At this point, you'd be substituting one young guy for another young guy. I'll try to get him at-bats, especially in Chicago. I like to have guys play in their hometown."

Nowhere does he say that Rosales will get a start.

I'm not really surprised, Dusty has been known to make up things in the past. IIRC he made up some stuff on Bruce and Freel earlier in the year and they both refuted it.

These Fogg games are helping accomplish two goals.

First, they are helping the Reds get a higher draft pick next year.

And, by leaving Maloney in AAA they are helping Louisville clinch a spot in the playoffs and perhaps win some playoff games.

Doc. Scott

The tag Edwin made on the wild pitch with the runner going to third just now is one of my pet peeves.

He reached towards home plate to receive the ball, instead of positioning himself at the bag and waiting on the ball, not reaching, which makes his only move straight down with the ball once it gets there. It takes much more time to reach out to get the ball then come back with your arm for the tag.

It's a subtle skill, but I can't believe how many times I see it ignored in the major leagues.

Many things in baseball are better than ever. Nutrition, strength training, flexibility training..... many things. But some of the fundamentals that used to be a given on the major league level simply aren't as prevalent anymore.

And get off my lawn.

Bako whiffs on four pitches and up comes young Adam Rosales to pinch-hit for Fogg.

disagree.

Phillips has an OPS+ of ~100 which means he is average offensively. He plays plus defense at 2B and has speed. He is not a superstar but is a solid player.

Dickerson has looked good so far in his audition for the CF job in 2009.

Kep is a nice part time player. He is just not a SS nor does he hit RHP well.

The Reds need a SS & a 3B ( with EE to LF ). Get these and we can live with a weak stick good glove catcher.

Keep Phillips but just show Dusty how his stats say he is 6th or 7th hitter not a cleanup hitter. Just like with Patterson at leadoff, you are putting him in a position to fail more than he succeeds

Adam Rosales is wearing #60. Never the number of a game who is going to stick around for awhile.

Normally I agree, but it's getting toward the end of the season, so I don't think it matters as much. Rosales is basically a September callup--he just got here two or three weeks early. I guess they could have given him #16 (which I think was the only available low number when he first got the call), but when he came up for Votto, I think they thought he would only be up for a couple of days. I also think that they didn't anticipate Rosales coming back so quickly because of Hairston's recurring injury. I would expect the Reds to assign a low number to him next spring.

Playing the number one team close indicates that the Reds really aren't as bad as they look, even if this isn't football.

The Reds score four runs in 27 innings. They are fortunate to leave Chicago with a 1-2 record in the series.

Phillips bat is being exposed now that he doesn't benefit from hitting between Griffey and Dunn.

Agreed

I also think that the guy that placed him in the four hole this year is being exposed too.

Pretty sure that Jocketty knows a cleanup batter after his years at St. Louis vs a Phillips, a Baker decision.
