Wow, BP with a slick recovery from a botched play!

Ball tagged up the middle with a runner on first, he knocks it down behind the bag but doesn't catch it. So he basically "snaps" the ball to Kep covering second.

I was checking out scores on gameday and I clicked on the Braves vs Cardinals game and Lopez is 1 for 5 with 10 runners left on base.

Keppinger at SS is embarrassing. Barmes just hit a routine double play up the middle and yet the statue Keppinger couldn't get to it. Unbelievable. I think I've seen little leaguers with more range than Keppinger.

OnBaseMachine

Very small strikezone tonight. That was strike three right there. Harang has been getting squeezed badly tonight.

OnBaseMachine
08-22-2008, 10:40 PM
Jeff Keppinger has single handedly turned this into a potential big inning. With a major league caliber SS there would be two outs and maybe one runner on.

durl
08-22-2008, 10:41 PM
I agree. That shoulda been a strikeout. Instead the bases are loaded and nobody out.

I think it's time to pull Harang. I don't want to see him give up a ton of runs again.

OnBaseMachine

Harang escapes a bases loaded zero out jam by getting Holliday to pop out and Hawpe and Ianetta to strikeout.

durl
08-22-2008, 10:47 PM
And Harang gets a K to get out of the inning. Now THAT'S the Harang we like to see.

I would've pulled the guy. Guess that's why I'm not a manager.

Six shutout innings from Harang on 115 pitches. I don't know about you guys but I don't like having Harang throw 115 pitches three starts removed from a forearm injury.

I agree 115 is too high. Good to see Harang have a good outing, though. Think of the pitches that would have been saved if Keppinger could get to anything. They've got to get him off SS by next year.

Maybe it's time to trust Baker and Pole a little bit.

Many of the fans around here wanted Harang "shut down" before this start. Looks like maybe it was the right move to let him pitch. Seems perhaps to be getting back to himself, Mr. Harang.

As for the pitch count, if he's thrown 115 that's about enough I'd say. But it's good to give Harang an opportunity to pitch successfully after such a tough stretch.

I didn't care for the ump's zone very much. Harang could've been out of a couple innings much earlier than he was. Seems like he wasn't getting the inside (to RH) strike.

Well, our opponents are wasting little time raising that .315 Arg. against Majewski. Fisher or or Hwerrera Roenicke desevrve these innings. Pitching this guy who has nof uture accomplshes nothing, The future is now.

I guess the one arguement might be not weakening the Bats for the IL Playoffs.

Sweet said on WLW tonight that Roenicke still has some control problems, expects him to be with the Reds next year.

Yeah, maybe we should trust Dusty abilities to handle pitchers after he did such a fine job in Chicago.

That's weak. For all the supposed issues Dusty had with his pitchers in Chicago, they haven't exactly been pictures of health anywhere else. And he didn't do any harm to Zambrano.

Actually on the whole, his abuse of pitchers(or lack of it) is probably one of the things I've been pleasantly surprised about Dusty this year.

Volquez has had some higher pitch count games, but he's also 24. I've seen quite a few games where Cueto's been pulled at just under 100 pitches.

Yeah, maybe we should trust Dusty abilities to handle pitchers after he did such a fine job in Chicago.

Amazing how Reds fans can't let go of Dusty's use of Wood and Prior. The two pitchers have, they don't seem to blame Dusty.

Someday, maybe, the Reds will actually be contending to win a pennant again. There will be pressure to use the team's best pitchers for long outings to win games.

When a team is lousy, it's easy to say "pull the pitcher, he's thrown his 90 pitches, we don't want him to be overworked." It's much harder when the team is good and trying to win.

Johan Santana was pulled in a few games this year and bullpen blew it. So now, the Mets more often let him go the distance to pin down games. They would like to save the pitcher's arm, but the Mets' primary interest is winning.

You shouldn't be. It's Aug. 23. The season was over for the reds a long time ago. You can expand rosters Sep 1, if you want to take a load of some of your pitchers. The time for releasing guys is long over.

The minor league system has been disrupted enough with all the call ups, trades and injuries. You play out the string...and an 8-0 game is EXACTLY where you use a guy like Maj.

Yep. Why would you subject a kid like Roenicke to multiple-inning outings for no good reason in a season that got flushed months ago?
