Well, true to his word, Dusty isn't playing Castillo. It's Cabrera instead. (famous shrug) At least it's not Patterson starting. Of course that means that CPatt could be Dusty's 'big weapon' off the bench. :scared

You can't criticize when a player swings at a first pitch fastball down the middle of the plate and absolutely crunches it.

You let that pitch go by, and you are playing catch up the rest of the AB.

Patinece is letting unhittable pitches go by.

Stupidity is letting cripples go by.

He had a good pitch to hit and hit a line drive. No problem with that. Lotta times a guy who's been wild will try to slip a cookie past on the 1st pitch, assuming the batter is going to take it. Makes for a good pitch to hit.

Bronson K's Soriano. He really looks sharp tonight. Changing speeds and location VERY well.

His duel with Theriot for example....

89 mph FB low & inside
75 mph Slider up & in
67 mph Curve up & out
73 mph Curve wide outside
68 mph Curve at the head then bends in for a strike
87 mph FB outside corner.

I love it when Bronson throws like this. When he's on like this he can really keep the hitters off balance.

I think Bruce is going to be a star but right now he's showing that he's 21 y.o. If he had gone to college he'd either be in this draft class or the next.

He's making the mistakes that, honestly, happen from time to time and I think over the next year or so he'll eliminate them but, right now, there are a few bumps in the road.

Patterson, Hairston, Dickerson. What do they all have in common besides their last names ending in "on"?

Okay, that's what they all have in COMMON...what do they do differently? Patterson is all glove no stick. Hairston is average at both but extremely injury prone. Dickerson has a WELL above average glove, speed and his stick has been extremely solid ALL year long...not just since the call up. Dickerson has a MUCH better chance of being the real deal than either of the other two. And on the plus side...he costs us VERY little money for a while. If nothing else, he buys us time without costing us defense or speed.

While I agree he should have been pulled after 6, I wouldn't go so far as to say that Arroyo's brilliant start ws ruined.

And while 120 pitches is a lot, they were mostly stress free, given the Reds scoring early and often. That makes a big difference in assessing stress on the arm. Arroyo was throwing free and easy.

Still there's no reason to send him out for the 7th inning.

FWIW, the stats (K's, W's and HR's allowed) suggest that Arroyo isn't doing anything different now other than getting better BABIP luck.

He's basically had the same DIPS ERA for three years now, and while his actual ERA has dropped dramatically as the year has worn on, his DIPS ERA has remained pretty consistent all year. Which, if you believe in DIPS, was likely to happen.

Oh, I agree completely. He's had some VERY bad luck this season in terms of lucky hits, poor defense, etc. But that sort of thing drags you down mentally and that's what I was referring to. I saw the same sort of thing with Harang in the first half of the season...and Aaron has responded differently than Bronson. Sure, part of it is probably due to the injury...but I haven't seen any anger, fire or desire from Aaron (not that it surprises me)...but when you struggle that badly, you'd kind of like to see some sort of emotion. Bronson has just fought through it and really pushed himself. I find it even nicer to see from a vet. It's pretty easy for a veteran to pack it in once the season is basically lost.

And A.Phillips, Cabrera, Valentine & Weathers. I can't see any of them having a future with this club.

I posted this in chat, but why am I so tormented by the Reds that even with an 8 run lead, I'm fealing like we are going to screw this up?

Now he pulls him. 122 pitches in 6.1 innings. I can't stand Dusty Baker.

I'm resigned to the fact that Dusty will manage next year - if foe no other reason - the money he's owed. I would find a "pitching czar though and turn the staff over to him. The first thing I would do is hand him a bat with orders to club Dusty like a baby seal if he so much as says Hi to anyone on the staff.

I missed the first pitch but FSN showed the count as 3-0. That's what I get for trusting FSN.

Patterson stays in the game as usual as the CF'er. Why can't Dusty put him in there in LF for Cabrera? I think it's much more important for us to see what Dickerson can do in center than what Corey can do in center.

Nah, I"ve got no problem with putting him in for defensive purposes late in the game. I'd just prefer that they put him in left so we can see Chris in center for longer. Everytime Dusty double-switches Corey into the game, it's always to center and bumping Chris to left. I'd like to see a change to that.

*sigh* Another fielding flub by Bruce. Affeldt repeatedly gets into trouble by not changing speeds. 6 straight FB's between 93-95 to Hill (10 straight if you go back to previous hitters). You're just asking to get beat when you do that. I don't care HOW fast your heater is, if that's all you throw...the hitters WILL get the timing down on you.

Man, I thought Votto had another one. Foul ball though.

Votto ends up striking out. 3 up, 3 down. Still, a great game for Joey. 2-3, 2 walks, 2 runs, 3 rbis, double & HR. Anybody know what he's hitting in the second half? It's got to be pretty tremendous.

Diggin' the kids....I think Joey Votto is going to be an absolute STUD.....maybe moreso than Bruce, who I think is going to put up great numbers as well. Volquez...well, he's looking like a TRUE ace in my book, and i've been a fencer on the trade all season..Cueto has worked himself a lot of valuable experience, and can be a dominant pitcher....Im excited about the young spark in Cincinnati...a foundation appears to be set. Jocketty has to build the house now.... The tools are there, and so is the GM

I can't agree more. I'm right there with you Matt. Another great thing to see is the fact that we've got a solid pipeline of additional talent coming up through the ranks as well. I haven't EVER seen this much solid talent up and down the levels in the minors that we've currently got. Trying to find positions for all these young kids...now that's a new problem I'm thrilled to have. :O)
