matt, in all the years you've been on this site, haven't you learned that batting average isn't important? it's all about getting on base...er, wait, that doesn't justify corey appearance in the lineup either...never mind:p:

I hate Dusty Baker (as manager of the Reds) with a burning passion. Expanded rosters and he's still running out Patterson and Cabrera at the top of the lineup. I'm prone to exaggeration, but suffice it to say that I am less of a fan of the Reds thanks to the idiocy of that man. He's the managerial equivalent of the toddler who can't have small toys for fear of choking on them.

I mean, Cabrera at SS. Really!? Play Keppinger. Play Janish. Play SOMEBODY who might have a role on this team next year.

Patterson as a leadoff and people wonder why Baker draws RAVE reviews. :)

Dusty said last night that Dickerson would play today. And why not give Richar or Janish a start at SS?

Is there anything legitimately wrong with Dickerson or is this another creative method to get other's playing time? Dickerson the CF has not played CF that much for the Reds since being called up.

Ramirez walks Weeks and then balks him to second base. Hardy hits a routine pop up and EdE and Hanigan collide and let it drop for an error. What a defense.

Ramirez has made him look foolish on two straight changeups so far.

OnBaseMachine
09-09-2008, 08:24 PM
The shift NEVER works for the Reds. Fielder hit a soft line drive right where the SS should have been, instead Cabrera is standing behind SS. I've never seen the shift work for the Reds. 1-0 Brewers. There's where the error hurt. If EdE makes that play then Ramirez could have walked Fielder to face the right hander.

Don't know if it's occurred to anyone. This game has meaning in the NL race. The Cubs series, this series, the Arizona series upcoming, all have meaning.

So the Reds are using some veterans. They're not experimenting with guys at uncertain positions. They are letting their starters go fairly deep into the games.

If the Reds play some games against non contenders, I think we'll see more emphasis on the young guys. Even now, some are playing, tonight a number of them.

No, I don't agree with that at all. Well, maybe the overrated part. It's more like people expect him to be something he's not. Dusty included. He's not a clean-up/homerun hitter. He'll hit for a decent average (.280'ish) with some nice pop. His glove is his most valuable asset though.

When he's in the cleanup slot, he swings for the fences regardless of the pitch it seems. He's a 6 or 7 batter IMO.

That's why you have minor league coaches and managers. If the Reds thought Rosales was an option at third, we'd know it. Doubtful that he is, at this point.

The Reds should acquire a new third baseman and move EE to left field for next year. Let's see how he hits with the pressure of third base removed.

I'm in favor of a move for Beltre. Would shore up the righty hitting, improve defense, and EE gets a try in the outfield. Or Votto to left, EE to first base. Either way.

I haven't personally discussed the Reds' views of prospects with the team's staff. I don't know what their internal reports are. This year, they promoted the right guys and they went slow with guys who needed it. The only promotion I didn't like was Homer, who wasn't doing well at AAA and wasn't likely to do well with the Reds this year.

As for Patterson and Bako, if it makes everybody feel good to bark at them 150 times per season, so be it. ~edit~ Per Fay....
--Adam Rosales, INF: He's an interesting guy to watch. He's athletic. He's hit everywhere he's played. And he hustles like Pete Rose. Look at his Louisville averages this year: .177 in April, .235 in May, .299 in June, .324 in July and .436 in August. If the Reds decided to move Brandon Phillips to short, I'd have him in the mix at second base.

Lincoln back out for another inning. Goodness.

They have two long guys in the pen on top of it all.

With 500 pitchers in the pen now, why use Lincoln for 2 innings when he's been poor lately and even over the course of the year bad in his 2nd trip to mound?

Because this game means something....next year doesn't.....or something

Short guy, stubby bat, check him out with his batting helmet. He looks like Merry from LOTR.

*laughs* Yeah, i see it. But he's 6 foot. Not short per say. But I do see it. :O)

Dusty is making Tony LaRussa look bad.....ANOTHER pitching change and a double switch - Atkins out now after Affeldt doesn't get someone out

Affeldt in. I think we'll have to go 19 or 20 innings to see the new guys.

1st pitch single. *sigh* Baker back out to switch....double style. Dickerson to left. Adkins in.

Patterson out. Dickerson in left, Hairston in center. I'd reverse that.

Remarkable recovery by Dickerson as he comes into the game with Adkins

Hairston to Center per Cowboy WLW
