Owings should pitch :D

alloverjr
09-12-2008, 09:17 PM
OK. Since Dusty values my opinion and reads this site:

Richar at SS - I like.

Patterson and Bako? Seriously? I thought Bako worked with the young guys. That's what made him "special". But the vet's on the mound. And no matter what arm Webb throws with, do we really think these 2 guys are better options than Hanigan and Harriston? Integrity, please.

A question: does Dickerson project to be a CF or corner guy?

_Sir_Charles_
09-12-2008, 09:25 PM
Owings should pitch :D

Dusty just now stated...."No, he won't pitch". They're going to give him more time to heal his shoulder. Good.

He is good with Harang  I just really wish someone would step in and be like look, Hanigan must start at least 4 times a week at catcher.

Harang throws a 1-2-3 first inning.

RedsManRick
09-12-2008, 09:45 PM
Grounder to EE and he sets his feet well and fires a perfect throw to first. He's certainly got the skills -- just needs to be consistent with them.

_Sir_Charles_
09-12-2008, 09:46 PM
Considering what people have been saying about Castillo defensively (at Catcher), I wouldn't mind seeing him get a start or two. But he's a switch-hitter that can't hit from one side (can't recall which).

OnBaseMachine
09-12-2008, 09:47 PM
EdE begins the inning by hammering a 410 foot flyball that Chris Young tracks down.

_Sir_Charles_

Wind is REALLY picking up here. But I'm gonna enjoy the Reds game for as long as I've got power tonight.

I'm sorry but I'm rooting for Dunn. I want him to do good but the Reds still win!

alloverjr
09-12-2008, 09:50 PM
Maybe I've not paid close enough attention but it looked like EE was holding his hands a little lower, which may make hime quicker to the ball. Maybe something garnered from ED?

I can't get use to Big Dunn in a D-Backs uniform.

OnBaseMachine

It feels weird being on the other side of a Dunn atbat. He flies out to Bruce on a 2-2 pitch. Reynolds grounds out.

RedsManRick

Sigh. Stealing bases costs most teams more runs than it generates. Votto's inning ending deep fly is a run scoring sac fly if Dickerson stays put. I HATE running in to outs -- especially when getting on base in the first place is so difficult.

You're exactly right. A strained oblique can be rough on a pitcher. The best thing to do IMO would have been to shut him down (like you and I and others suggested) and let him rest up for spring training. He's clearly not at his best right now.

Lincoln throws in the dirt again, it gets by Bako and it's 3-0. Game over (as if it wasn't at 1-0)

K to end the inning. When you don't score, it doesn't matter how many the bad guys get I guess.

Take away Harang's error and using a different set of pitchers in the 8th and we could still be scoreless, but we need to score more runs and play better defense against a good pitcher. We didn't.

Really, it might have been worse with the kids, and he's trying to win as many as he can. Must be some kind of pressure on him to win for some reason. If I were GM and owner, I'd say "let the kids play and let's see what we've got--and under no circumstances do you play Patterson and Bako for any reason."

You know the loss doesn't matter much in the whole scheme of things, but you have to look at the the difference in the two teams. Those pitches the DB pitcher was throwing were't that much different in what Burton, Bray, and Lincoln were throwing. The only difference was the D-Backs weren't swinging at those pitches while the Reds hitters were suckers for those pitches. Maybe that's the wrong word, I don't know, but the result is the same.

To be honest, I don't know what I would have done, but you expect Burton and Bray to be better (and that's a stretch because Burton is not himself and Bray is typical Bray--on and off). Throw the kids in there and there's a good chance that it all blows up in your face. The problem is deciding if you want to plan for 2009 or win this season. Apparently, the mantra thrown down is to win now.

Aaron Harang deserves better, but it was by his hand that we lose the game. How ironic.

Hated the signing and so wish Pete Mack was still running this show. Bob C god knows your opening the wallet but Jesus man ! Analyze the future a vet manager is the last thing you need to run this team. Simply put hire a guy who plays the talewnt and looks at the big picture going forward.
