The Bengals game is finally on TV for me. But I really have no idea which bad team I want to watch. I guess I'll watch the bad team that's doing decent lately.

Cameron K's on three pitches.

Counsell flies out to Hairston in RF.

Braun K's. Nice first inning by Bronson.

Andy Phillips grounds into a doubleplay. I can't believe this guy is batting 4th. Where is Rosales? Arroyo will need to throw a shutout today for a win.

Fielder homers. 1-0 Brewers.

OnBaseMachine
09-21-2008, 01:31 PM
Hardy reaches on an infield single. It took Phillips forever to get to that ball and then he struggled to get it out of his glove. That's a play Edwin is good at.

Cabrera gets ahead 3-1 and pops out on ball 4. He refused that walk. There is no excuse for a guy like Cabrera or Phillips to be starting over Rosales today.

I can believe he is batting fourth. :)

Patterson also refuses a walk and K's on ball four. Richar drops down a beautiful bunt single.

Phillips and Cabrera are fine in the number 4 and 5 holes.

As long as their first names are Brandon and Miguel. Maybe Brandon not so much...but that isn't even a percentage as insane was Andy in the 4 hole. Twice.

Hanigan works the count to 3-2 and walks. Good atbat. Two on for Arroyo.

OnBaseMachine
09-21-2008, 01:50 PM
Bronson gets ahead 2-1, called strike 2-2, foul, wild pitch moves the runners up. 3-2 now. Foul keeps it 3-2. Another foul. Ground out to Hardy ends the inning.

McClung is very fortunate this is still a 1-0 game. He was all over the place last inning but the Reds veterans really helped him out. Cabrera swung at an awful 3-1 pitch and fouled out. Patterson swung at ball four and struckout. Richar and Hanigan followed with a single and a walk.

Man, stop the world! After Phillips singles, Cabrera and Patterson draw back-to-back walks.

Richar grounds out to score one. 4-1 Brewers.

Doc. Scott

Hanigan HBP'd to load the bases with one out for Arroyo. McClung gets the hook in favor of Todd Coffey.

Doc. Scott

Coffey K's Bronson on a couple of nasty sliders. Three more take care of Hairston.

4-1 Brews after 4.

Todd C. just needed Reds hitters to put him back on track. The Brewers should keep him to pitch only to the Reds.

That or he got some superior instruction in Milwaukee. He looked good and made Hairston look bad that at-bat.

Love to know who Coffey is giving the death-stare to upstairs. Doesn't seem like it is in his character, but someone has ticked him off. Lots of dummies in that pressbox, so your guess is as good as mine.

Brantley. Remember?

Arroyo puts the first two Brewers on base to begin the fifth- the #8 hitter Kendall and pinch-hitter Joe Dillon. But Hanigan hangs on to a foul tip to get Cameron (three Ks in a row). But Counsell draws a walk on a full count. Braun and Fielder (3 RBIs) to follow with the sacks juiced.

Arroyo having a rough time today. It was bound to happen. You can't be "on" every start.

This ump sucks. That ball four on Dillon was strike two on Arroyo during his atbat.

Does Andy Phillips wear cement shoes? The big play in this game was last inning when Counsell led off with a single. Braun followed by hitting what looked like a doubleplay but somehow the slow roller made it past Andy Phillips for a single and the Brewers wound up scoring three runs. I know EdE isn't a great 3B but he's much better than Phillips. With Phillips at 3B, Keppinger at SS, and Cabrera in LF, I don't think I've ever seen a worse defensive left side.

OnBaseMachine

Bases loaded and one out for Braun. Bronson seems to have trouble with Counsell for some reason. Arroyo was bound to have a bad start.

Richar hands the Brewers two runs with a throwing error. 6-1 Brewers after 4 1/2. What a defense.

We need a shortstop. That looked too familiar. Or sounded. We aren't getting the game on TV today. You got it in GB, OBM?

Doc. Scott
09-21-2008, 02:54 PM
A FC grounder by Braun ends up scoring two after a Danny Richar throwing error. Fielder is intentionally passed, then Arroyo finally escapes the inning by popping up JJ Hardy. Now 6-1 Milwaukee.

I'm watching the game. As for the play, I missed it but I checked Gameday and it says Richar made a throwing error. Anyone care to describe what happened?

I agree with ya on shortstop. It's the biggest need for this organization IMO.

Keppinger pokes a single to lead off the bottom of 5, but Votto erases that with a 6-3 DP grounder.

Sure. Grounder was a bit to Kepp's right, he scoops it up and throws to Richar. Counsell came into second standing up and Richar throws the ball over Votto's head.

The Reds are playing like crap today but beating CC Sabathia and taking two of three from the Brewers is a very successful series. Hopefully Bruce, EdE, and Dickerson are back tomorrow or Tuesday.

I missed a few atbats in the 5th inning but I only remember just a few hard hit balls off Arroyo all day. The Brewers have six hits. Braun hit a slow roller that somehow made it past Phillips. Hardy had an infield single that Phillips took forever to get out of his glove. Counsell had a line drive single and Fielder hit two rockets but that's the only hard hit balls I remember.

Bruce not in lineup on Sunday
Outfielder day-to-day after being hit on hand Saturday
By Justice B. Hill / MLB.com

CINCINNATI -- Manager Dusty Baker decided not to pencil rookie Jay Bruce's name into the Reds' starting lineup Sunday in the series finale with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Bruce had started the game Saturday, which the Reds won, 4-3. But he left early after getting hit on his right hand by a pitch in the fourth inning. X-rays taken later were negative, and he was listed as day-to-day.

Still, Baker chose not to start Bruce.

"I don't care what kind of treatment you take, you're going to be sore," Baker said. "I'm glad nothing's broken."

OnBaseMachine

Herrera made Fielder look foolish. He got him to chase three straight nasty sliders down and away. I think Herrera's got a chance to be a solid big leaguer if utilized properly, i.e., not using him two or three innings at a time.

Going into the bottom of the 9th, the Reds have 4 hits in eight turns on pitchers who have not set the world on fire:

McClung - 4.17 ERA
Coffey - 4.81
Villanueva - 4.15
Gagne - 5.82

Only hits by Keppinger, Phillips, and Richar.

Two out of three ain't bad, though.

As the first man up, Hanigan, gets a hit to start the 9th.
