Reds Sign Livan Hernandez
By Tim Dierkes [December 9 at 4:03pm CST]
According to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times, the Reds signed Livan Hernandez.

UPDATE: 1:43 p.m.: Just got word that free agent starting pitcher Livan Hernandez has signed a deal with the Reds. It will be announced shortly. Hernandez went 13-11 with 6.05 ERA last year in Colorado and Minnesota.

Bringing him in to compete in Spring Training I'd say

I'm guessing this is a minor league deal, otherwise I don't get it. Wouldn't Owings be a better option for the 5th spot? Plus, this in no way makes Bronson more expendable.

Maybe Eric Milton isn't available. That has to be a mistake.

No hes not the savior but as a possible 5th starter if they arnt paying him a ton I'm for it. Livan knows how to pitch and can only have a positive influence on Cueto and Volquez.

I'm hoping someone got "the Reds signed Livan Hernandez" confused with "the Reds traded for Ramon Hernandez". Signing Livan in our ballpark would be...hmmm...very questionable.

The writer blew it, read his cell phone wrong or some lame excuse. It was Ramon, not Livan Hernandez.

I was starting to worry for a minute there.

just have to chalk it up as another rumor that doesn't happen.

Looks like my "hope" came true...

UPDATE (2:15 p.m.): A little broken telephone going on. It's actually Orioles catcher Ramon Hernandez going to the Reds for outfielder Ryan Freel et al. Sorry for the mix-up. Expecting an announcement shortly.
