Hey, lefties are hitting back-to-back at 3-4. That's not supposed to happen.

Signed him to a minor league deal in mid December.
Back-to-back lefties in the middle of a big 1st inning, chasing the RH starter. I wonder if a lesson could be learned from this?

Thanks. I couldn't find that.

Bankston was a pretty good pickup. He's a former top prospect in the Rays system. He's still only 25 years old.

I know it's only spring training, but the Phillies seem to always crush Bronson. At least Burrell is finally gone though.

First inning: The Reds beat up on Phillies starter Andrew Carpenter, who faced six batters without recording an out. After walks by leadoff batter Willy Taveras and Jerry Hairston Jr., Joey Votto hit a rolling RBI single through the middle. Juan Francisco smoked a RBI double to left field and Jonny Gomes ripped a two-run double to thw wall in left-center field. Lefty pitcher Antonio Bastardo took over for Carpenter from there but Cincinnati sent 10 men to the plate in the inning.
Bronson Arroyo didn't have a smooth top of the first inning -- giving up two doubles and a walk. Raul Ibanez's double drove in the game's first run.
Second inning: Arroyo appeared to throwing easy and just trying to locate in the first inning. But in the second inning, he seemed to throw a little harder with some movement. The side was retired in order and Matt Maloney took over in the third. In the bottom of the second, Joey Votto lifted a solo homer the opposite way to the left field corner.

Maloney gave up an RBI single to Dobbs in the 3rd. 5-2 Reds after 2 1/2.
Phils' 3rd: Victorino 6-3. McDonald walks. Ibanez walks. Stairs F9. Dobbs singles, McDonald scores. Jenkins K.

Reds' 3rd: Dickerson walks. Dickerson caught stealing. Keppinger 6-3. Hernandez 6-3.
Arroyo on his outing: "That first inning you always feel like an alien. You don't know where the ball is going to go. The second inning felt better. I felt like I was in the pocket more. But it's good to have a first inning like that. You want some pounding on your arm. I'll be sore tomorrow, which is good."
Phils' 4th: Ozuna homers. Chavez 4-3. Marson 6-3. Nice play by Hairston and nice scoop by Votto. Victorino doubles. Donald F9.

Kevin Barker taking over for Votto at 1b
Ron Flores now pitching. When did the Reds get a submariner? Wow.
Maybe the outfielders should spend less time learning how to field bunts and more time doing things that may realistically pay dividends ... like ... learning how to avoid getting picked off first base.

To be fair, from the sounds of things, Romero has a great pickoff move. And Votto's never struck me as a poor (non-smart) baserunner.

Are there particular outfield prospects that you think will sit (or not move up) because they gave minor league deals to some of these folks? Just because they're getting a look see doesn't mean they'll get playing time over prospects.

Good point. And not to mention the fact of the longer spring and the players leaving for the WBC. I've got no problem with the extra signees

Wow, I go into a meeting and the Reds offense has a field day by eating up Phillies pitching. I should go into meetings during games this whole season, LOL
Is this offense going to be so all or nothing all season?! They couldn't do anything yesterday and are very much wide awake today. That's going to make for some heart stopping games, LOL
