Those are two very ugly offenses and impressive sets of pitchers. Unless the wind is blowing out again I'd expect a low scoring game...

Half the Red Sox offense is in the WBC, the other half is somehow even more injured or sick than Rocco Baldelli.

Lester is a tough matchup for the lefties -- Jones, Bruce, Francisco, Ward

He hit Bruce with a pitch(sorry, I'm sure it was an accident), then Varitek threw him out trying to steal.

Reds' 1st: Hopper F8. Jones K, looking. Bruce HBP. Bruce caught stealing, 2-4.

Red Sox' 1st: Ellsbury singles. Lowrie singles. Wilkerson K. Baldelli 4-6-3 DP.

He got out of 1st and 3rd, no outs, by K'ing Wilkerson and getting Baldelli to hit into a DP.

They sure have been caught stealing a lot in the first week of exhibition games, that's for sure.

If Dusty continues to run into this many outs during the regular season I'm going to have to be locked up...

I was thinking the same thing. A big problem with last year's offense was not only did they have trouble getting on base, but even when they did they were routinely either picked off or caught stealing.

Early indications are this year's squad will be no different running the basepaths.

Reds' 4th: Hopper bunt single. (I talked to him before the gmae for a feature. Asked him why he hadn't bunt. "I'm trying to get my timing. I've got to swing the bat. I feel like I can bunt any time. I might trying it today). Jones F8. Bruce homers to right, Hopper scores. Bruce should have been out left fielder Paul McAnulty dropped a routine foul ball a couple of pitch before. Phillips singles, steals second, goes to third on E2. Encarnacion homers to left, Phillips scores.

Owings was brought out for a 4th inning.

Red Sox' 4th: Lowrie doubles. Wilkderson K. Baldelli 6-3. Varitek walks. (Burton pitching) McAnulty doubles, Lowrie, Varikek score. Anderson 3U.

Owings final line: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K

The two runs scored after he was pulled. I'm surprised he pitched four innings this early in the spring.

FYI, Volquez gave up a homer to Jeremy Hermida. 2 ip, 1 hit (HR), 1 run, 2 k's, 0 bb. And he's done.

Also, Votto is playing LF for team canada, and he's 0-2 so far....make that 0-3.

Joey's now playing first and his first play...GREAT scoop out of the dirt.

Heather: I am guessing whoever is getting lit isn't making the team. Wins and losses don't matter much in spring training, and particularly not this year when so many teams are without a bunch of regulars. In the Reds' case (and Red Sox even more so), it means more guys getting time in spring games than they would otherwise be receiving.

True. Volquez might be more typical of the pitchers the Rangers trade away, Littleton seems more typical of the ones they keep.

It was Kennard and Pettyjohn that got roughed up for 3 apiece. Looks like Bisher came in with one out for Pettyjohn and retired two batters with a strikeout (don't know if he let any inherited runners score).

I'm not a big fan of the WBC, but I do like the opportunity to let guys like Frazier, Francisco and Valaika get extended looks.

If Dusty doesn't continually use him in the wrong situations, I think I'm gonna end up really liking the Gomes signing.
