SARASOTA, Fla. – Jail records show Cincinnati Reds minor league pitching coach Tom Browning has been charged with nonpayment of child support.

The former Reds star, who threw a perfect game in 1988, was arrested on Friday.

He is being held in the Sarasota County Jail until he is either taken to Polk County, where he owes the child support, or pays the $99,008.36 that he owes.

Browning was drafted by the Reds in 1982. After two years in the minors, he was called up in September 1984. He spent 12 years in the majors, going 123-90 with a 3.94 ERA.

In 2006, the Reds invited Browning to spring training as a special instructor. Since then, he has coached for the rookie league Billings Mustangs and was promoted in December to the Double-A Carolina Mudcats, both Cincinnati farm teams.

Browning, a member of the Reds Hall of Fame, was also a part of this year’s annual Reds winter caravan.

Browning was being held on $99,008.36 bail.

Enquirer reporter Alex Shebar contributed to this report.

Very disappointing indeed. I always took Browning to be an stand-up guy. Show's you not to always. believe what you see. Almost $100g he owes.

Since I don't know the details I'll reserve judgement for now. Hopefully there's a mixup or two involved.

It was reported he made 16.7 million in his career. This has got to be wrong...way wrong. I read his book, he came up in the mid-80's and broke his arm I believe in 94.

No one was making that much back then. A 1 million dollar contract was a big deal back then.

Does anybody have better information on how much he made?

I think he was the highest/2nd highest paid Reds player on the '90 team making over 2 million.

In America, Innocent until proven guilty. I've known guys to get railroaded in these things by greedy exes. But, if you bring 'em into this world, by God you are responsible to see that they are provided for, period.
