Regardless of the "fan-love" for Volquez and Cordero, they seem to have regressed somewhat. My problem is I do not have any faith in Dick Pole to straighten them out. Maybe Mario Soto will have to make an appearance like last year. Potential is only good when it becomes performance on the field. We got that most of the time from Volquez last year and some of the time from Cueto, but so far this year, only Harang has put up numbers that we were expecting. If that continues, it will be a longer summer than 2008 was.

Escpecially if we continue to only get 3-7 hits per game. Thank goodness that the Brewers' pitchers were more incompetent than ours.

Cordero had a tough spring....but he's been throwing bbs in his 3 innings so far. EV just looks totally lost. That balk was inexplicable, as was his location overall.
I wonder if it's a challenge getting on the same page with Hernandez?

kinda my point with this hack organization.

Speaking of which, tonight we happened to have on Fox Sports Pittsburgh for some reason (it's our local egional network for some reason) and they did this whole program on Pirate baseball over the years. It was *very* professional and well done, unlike some of the junk that FSO shows. Even in their game coverage, camera angles are supurb and the picture is sharp. They even have more HD games scheduled. Why is FSO-C so daggone horrible? There has to be a reason.

With a young pitcher, maybe. I rather think it's mechanics and rhythm. Something is amiss with Edinson's mechanics IMHO. Like I said earlier, I have no faith that our staff can solve it, but we all know who can. Calling Mario. Come home, Mario!

Coffey is back

Former Reds bullpenner Todd Coffey has made four appearances for the Brewers this year and has a 0.00 ERA for his 4 1/3 innings.

"I'm glad to be away from the Reds because they tried to take away my sinker, my best pitch," said Coffey, released by the Reds last year on his birthday.

He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings against the Reds Monday.

It doesn't surprise me that this staff would do something idiotic like attempt to take away a guy's best pitch (because, who knows, it can cause injury or something). I'm old enough to remember "pitch to contact."

This team has research & development working day and night on how to make pitchers worse.

From Trent's blog here is the official reason the telecast got cut off early last night.

Statement from Henry Ford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, FOX Sports Ohio, regarding Monday's Reds-Brewers game:

"FOX Sports Ohio would like to sincerely apologize to the viewers, as well as to the Reds, for the technical mishap that resulted in our transmission being interrupted just prior to the end of the last night's game. The network experienced a very unfortunate switching error, which occurred at our transmission center in New York.

FOX Sports Ohio produces as many as 145 Reds games each season, and we take great pride in the production quality and expertise that we bring to each telecast, which makes this situation very disappointing.

We will review the telecast circumstances to minimize the possibility of a reoccurrence."

The fastball has always been his best pitch.

To me, it's bad form to go pointing fingers at the organization that drafted you into pro ball (41st round) and brought you to the major leagues. Coffey would come off A LOT better if he gave credit to Cincy for what the franchise did do for him, and credit to Milwaukee for helping him rediscover his sinker. Instead, his quotes make him sound a bit immature. I can understand his having a chip on his shoulder re: what Brantley said about him (Brantley is not a Reds employee) -- but to crap on the organization is kinda bush, in my opinion.
