Lineups from Fay:

Reds:

Willy Taveras cf
Jerry Hairston lf
Joey Votto 1b
Brandon Phillips 2b
Jay Bruce rf
Edwin Encarnacion 3b
Ryan Hanigan c
Paul Janish ss
Bronson Arroyo p

Brewers:

Craig Counsell 2b
Corey Hart rf
Ryan Braun lf
Prince Fielder 1b
JJ Hardy ss
Mike Cameron cf
Bill Hall 3b
Jason Kendall c
LH Manny Parra p

Hairston in for Chris Dickerson with a lefty on the mound. Looks like Hanigan may be Arroyo's regular catcher, 2-for-2 so far.

Extra working going on as we speak. Looks like pretty much all of the regulars were here.

Now if we could just get him to get rid of McDonald

I thought McDonald was only here until Taveras got healthy. Taveras is healthy now, so there must be another reason.

Bad news: Prince Fielder loves him some Bronson Arroyo; career 9 for 26 with 3 homers.

Counsell also hits Bronson well; career .368.

Bill Hall, on the other hand, is 2 for 16 with 11 k's. And Rickie Weeks is 1 for 20 with 10 k's.

No Red has faced Parra enough to have meaningful stats against him.

I thought it was because he was so darned good during ST. Gomes started out well, but really struggled towards the end. Darnell was pretty darned good throughout. And he's a MUCH better defender and faster.

He really wasn't that good. I guess it's a relative term. Good for McDonald, but still showed OBP problems, and it was of course a super small sample size. In conjunction with his history, McDonald has done nothing to earn that spot.

Granted. But at the end of the day, they wanted speed & defense over a slugging defensive hole in the OF. I thought it was a flip of the coin. They were all NRI and none of them were super impressive. I personally would've preferred if they took Rosales over Darnell.

Make no mistake, I'm not in love with Gomes as a ballplayer, but I do think he fits this roster much better. He does have one really good skill, and that's the ability to hit lefties, and presto chango, there just so happens to be a wide open line-up spot at his position. There is a place on a roster with Gomes to maximize his 1 true talent, which can't be said for Hairston or McDonald.

Arroyo has enough hitting talent that I dont mind him swinging at close pitches in that situation if it's in a spot that he feels he can handle them. It's not like we have an RBI machine on deck. Didn't work out, but it wasn't an obvious ball or anything.

The NL Central is disproportionatly full of lefties, with the Reds being the notable exception. So when the Reds start the year in the division, it magnifies it. Add in getting Johan and O. Perez from the Mets, and it has def been an avalanche of southpaws...
