Lineups from Fay:

Reds (standard v. RHP):

Willy Taveras cf
Chris Dickerson lf
Joey Votto 1b
Brandon Phillips 2b
Jay Bruce rf
Edwin Encarnacion 3b
Ramon Hernandez c
Alex Gonzalez ss
Micah Owings p

Brewers:

Rickie Weeks 2b
Corey Hart rf
Ryan Braun lf
Prince Fielder 1b
JJ Hardy ss
Mike Cameron cf
Bill Hall 3b
Jason Kendall c
Braden Looper rhp

Sometimes it's not who you play, it's when you play them. The Brewers are struggling. Braun is hitting .200, Fielder .179. Overall, the Brew Crew is hitting .217, worst in the National League. The Reds are second worse at .222. Walks have really helped the Reds. They're third in the NL. That has their on-base percentage eighth at .342.

Brandon "I'm a hitter" Phillips has seven walks. Phillips (.433), Taveras (.409), Votto (.452), Encarnacion (.448) and Dickerson (.500) all have OBP of over .400.

Maybe with Owings behind him Gonzalez will get off .000 tonight.

I was hoping for a 5-5 road trip, a win tonight and I'm expecting 6-4. I really expect a split with the Stros and lose 2 of 3 at Wrigley, although the Reds did play the Cubs pretty tough last season.

Dusty forgot to find the inner Ed Barrow within him. Barrow figured out that it was ok to bat his pitcher somewhere other than 9th.

Prince Fielder up now.

Looper's living proof that if you can hit 90 on the gun and can throw two pitches for strikes, you can hold down a rotation spot in baseball.

Owings got hit hard that inning. I hope it was just nerves.

OTOH, the Milwaukee pitcher seems to own us so this might not end well.

Phillips up to the dish...

- Falls behind 1-2.
- Fouls off a pitch.
- And another.
- Then strikes out.

1 out.

I really wish Looper had left the NL and gone to the AL. :thumbdown

Hopefully Micah can settle down and pitch more like he did in spring training. He has to be a little nervous after not pitching for a while.

Looper appears fine and now faces EE...

- Pops up to the shortstop.

Looper making it look easy. Inning over. 1-0 Brew.

Looper has both his fastball and sinker between 89-91 MPH. You see that coming, you don't know which pitch it is until it is too late. The Reds will have trouble scoring runs tonight.

paintmered
04-15-2009, 08:35 PM
Here's Cameron...

- Owings ahead in the count 1-2
- Count runs full, 3-2
- Cameron blasts a shot to left. It's a home run. 2-0 Brewers.

OnBaseMachine

I guess Owings' start against that AA squad was a harbinger.

paintmered

Now the Reds killer himself, Bill Hall...

- Owings jams Hall who grounds to Votto. Votto flips to Owings who covers at 1st. 1 out.

04-15-2009, 08:38 PM
Jason Kendall...

- Grounds to Gonzalez who makes the easy play. 2 outs.

- Hernandez grounds weakly to Hall who has to make a great play to even attempt the throw to first. Hernandez beats it out and gets the infield single.

Now Gonzalez...

- Gonzalez grounds into the easiest 6-4-3 double play I've seen in my life.

Now Micah Owings, who I hear is not too shabby with the bat...

- Quickly falls behind, 0-2
- Looper makes him dance on a down and in pitch, 1-2
- Owings strikes out swinging and launches the bat into the 10th row.

Inning over. Looper faces the minimum through three. Still 2-0 Brewers through 2 and a half.
