I guess Hanigan and Janish haven't earned a 2nd start? Is there an unwritten rule that they can't start on b2b days?!?

Degenerate39
04-21-2009, 07:54 PM
I'm getting sick of Gonzo and Hernadez getting all the starts when they aren't hitting a lick but their back ups are. With that said they'll do well tonight

Caveat Emperor

I still maintain that it's lunacy to bat Owings so far down the order. If you think his bat is enough of a weapon for him to be (usually) the first PH off the bench, why bury him at #9 on days he is in the lineup?

He should at least be batting 7th

With Harden going, we better hope Owings throws a gem tonight.

The Cubs are throwing Harden, Lilly, and Zambrano this series. I'll be happy with one out of three, which would give the Reds a winning road trip.

The Reds won't be great offensively by any stretch, but I'm fairly confident they won't have this many hitters hitting in the low .200's all year. What happens when a few start to break out of their slumps?

GAC

If the Reds get good pitching to keep them in the game, then they have that chance to win. It's proven successful so far. But if any of our pitchers start to hit "rough spots", then this offense doesn't have what it takes to "take up the slack" IMO.

I think they could play this game 100 times, and each time Rich Harden would pitch a certain amount of innings without giving up a hit. I mean sometimes he might walk a few or get fatigued and have to leave after 6-7 innings, but I think a no-hitter would be in the realm of possibility basiclaly everytime.

My initial reaction when the Reds acquired Owings for Dunn was that the Reds weren't getting value but settling for a cast-off. He's still in spring training mode. Yesterday's off day was to break up his streak of three starts in a row for the first time since 2007. Now Dusty wants to stretch him to 4. I think he could improve when he's finsihed rounding into form. The biggest question I have is whether he'll stay healthy long enough to ever round into form.

He sure is. But NOT the kind of pitcher that Alex G needs to be getting ABs against to "get right".

Janish gives the Reds a better chance to win right now, on balance, than Alex G is.
