I'm only following on gamecast. Any chance that was on purpose (payback for the perceived slight to Escobar on Friday)?

I wouldn't be surprised if Arroyo's HBP of Escobar yesterday wasn't retaliation for Votto getting hit. The umpire thought it was unintentional, but Bronson has a bit of a mean streak. I figure that Bronson had decided he wanted to pitch inside, and if Escobar gets hit...oh well.
Owings pitched to David Ross like he was Barry Bonds and walks him on 4 straight.

Owings suffers from an inability to do two things: throw strikes and keep the ball down.
Those two inabilities are two you don't want your pitcher to have.
Owings Ks Kawakami to end the inning.

It's time to give Encarnacion a few days off. Bruce walked, so what does EdE do? He swings at a first pitch fastball at his ankles and dribbles it out in front of the plate.
Has Owings cracked 90 mph yet?
Owings generally only works in the high 80's with his fastball so we're not seeing anything unusual in that regard this afternoon.
That said, I wonder how many people still think Owings can develop into a #3 arm or better.
Ugh. EE thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

I dunno. The first few teams on the road weren't exactly great teams but Chicago has a quality roster. Atlanta is a nice team as well. So it's not necessarily the quality of the team they're playing.
I think it's (inconsistency) basically just a symptom of a flawed roster-i.e. a roughly .500 team.

Good grief.
If these two guys (Votto and Bruce) stay hot together for a while, the slumping offense could be a thing of the past. And if the front office is smart, this pair will be here for a while.
George works in a sayonara to Kawakami. Buddy Carlyle, who I had no idea was still alive, coming in to pitch.

I think so too. Bruce has more Pujols in him than he does Matt Stairs, which is to say, he's not allergic to the walk, but he'd rather put it in play HARD somewhere.
He ripped a little cookie fastball on the outer outer edge of the plate into the rightfield bleachers. Nice.
Can we amend two of today's runs back to Friday?

I don't want to know about Bruce's Pujols.

How's Pythagoras doing?
EE ends the inning with a groundout 6-3.
8-0 Reds after 5.

Hopefully, they aren't using up their runs meant for Oswalt....

Brantley actually had a good synopsis on Bruce's reinvigorated bat. After he hurt his hand, he was trying to yank the ball. After a little time to heal up on the bench, and some time to watch some tape, he realized he was getting his hands forward to quickly on his swing. He worked on staying back, and is now hitting like .550 since returning to the lineup.

How's Pythagoras doing?
At the start of the day they were something like 16-20 runs in the wrong direction, IIRC.

What is this OPS of which you speak?
Did you invent that, as well?
Which Nobel Prize did they award you for your work with OPS?

WOW! EE with an awesome sliding catch in foul territory.

(OK, I'm three pages behind...)
Willy T grounds out, 6-3. That's the end of the 6th, 8-0 Reds.
He's probably not going to OPS .900 for his career but Owings is a legit major league hitter.
