I honestly think that Votto has been the more valuable player than Pujols.

"More valuable" does not equal "better player". I love me some JV but no way is he a better player than Pujols.

No, I think we have intelligent baseball fans here.

It's embarrassing this poll even exists; sorry.

Could we have some other options, perhaps? There are 14 other teams in the NL.

Pujols, come on. Lets not lose objectivity here.

But don't worry. Votto is a lock as a reserve. Will probably he our only Red.

Really? There's someone you would start over Pujols? The guy is quite simply the best player on the planet...

Pujols

Votto is near the top of the class when it comes to 1st basemen but Pujols is on another world.

I'd like to see how the 8 people that voted for Votto would rationalize that pick with a straight face.

one month in, and we're talking about the All-Star game? Let's wait a while longer...

I understand but the poll question is "Who should be" not "Who do you want to be". I don't see any rationale that Votto should be the starter over Pujols. (But, I'd like to see it as well.) ;)

I certainly understand your thinking but its an All-Star game. The guys that the fans want there the most should be there. All the stats in the world will not change that.I'm a Reds fan so I think Votto should be there. If we were talking about a All-Century team or first team NL or All defensive teams I wouldn't argue.

I think both will be there, but if I had to pick one, it would be Pujols. He is better defensively, but not by as much as many think. He is more dangerous as a hitter, I don't think Votto has the same power that Pujols has. I do think that Votto can hit for similar average, but the power and defense put him on top.
Maybe Reds fans can stuff the ballot boxes, but doubt it.

Albert Pujols as of last night has struck out a grand total of 7 times this season. He has 8 homers. He's OPSing 1.132. In my opinion, he's the best pure hitter in baseball.

Joey's having a terrific season, but at the same time, we all know this isn't a flash in the pan for Albert. Being the best hitter in the bigs is Pujols' MO.

How can you possibly vote for Albert Punjols if you are a Reds fan?

I'm not even sure Votto would be the second choice. Gonzalez in San Diego is having a monster first month.

What does being a Reds fan have to do with it? The man is the best 1B in baseball. He DESERVES (read poll description) to be the man.

EDIT: I've already VOTED for Joey, as it's my duty as a Redlegs fan to do so.

Votto is by far my favorite positional player in baseball but the choice is obviously Pujols. He is far and away the best hitter in baseball.

I think Votto is the backbone, leader, best hitter, best 1B, etc., on this team, and would be so, on every other team in MLB. Except, the StL Cardinals..........

Pujols is on pace to have one of the best seasons professional baseball has ever seen. Most of the time, these early season predictions and pace slow down, but Pujols is the type of player that could consistently put these kinds of numbers up for an entire year. I would love to see Votto make the all-star team, but even as a Reds fan, I can't see him starting over Mr. Pujols

It's waaaay early to be making judgments but right now Votto might not even be the third choice.

Pujols
Cantu
Gonzalez/Votto

Since Votto might be the only Red to make the team, he might be #3. But I'll bet we put at least one pitcher on the All-Star team too.

(I just voted and I wrote in Hanigan :D )

All you need to know is that Pujols has more HR's than K's.

I love Votto but there is no comparison. He will never, ever be in the same class as Prince Albert. It's unfortunate but until Pujols is gone Votto has a giant roadblock to starting the All Star Game.
