Alot of you are probably going to think my prediction is a WAY off, but I disagree I think the offense is going to improve this month, the pitching is only going to get better and so will the defense.

Here's to a big month from the 2009 Reds :beerme:

16-12 would be possible if some bats come around, but I'm thinking 14-14. Still leaves them over .500 by a game.

18-10.

Cleveland and San Diego suck. Milwaukee is overrated. St. Louis and Philly will give us problems. We seem to struggle against Houston at home. I think we can take 2 of 3 from 'Zona. Pitt is a tough out because of their pitching, but so are we. I think we go into Florida and do pretty well.

I really think our offense will improve this month.

I am also encouraged by Volquez's efficient outing last night. He and Cueto really have it going. Hopefully Harang can continue, and Arroyo's bad outings are far and few between. Owings had a good outing......I hope he can build on it, and the bullpen continues to be mostly lights out.

I think it only gets better from here on out, but who knows?

That leaves me with a 16-12 prediction. I would gladly take that. Stay over .500 each month and see where that puts us come September. I would think we should be in the WC hunt, if that happens.
Just realized that I have them going 5-1 on a "west coast" road trip. Given the recent past on trips out west (or at least the perception I have), that might be a bit optimistic. However, I think most of the problems the Reds have had out west included stops in LA and SF.

I think some bats will wake up, some chemistry will be built upon, and the pitching will get even better. I'd like to see Gomes get called up, and Janish play more.

28-21 by the end of May would be nice.

If they come through it above .500? Well, then I'd think they'd at least get mentioned on ESPN for a change. (ANYTHING, to detract from BOSOX and YANKS)!!!

I would still rather see Homer, we have only seen him in 81innings so far and there is no reason why Owings is in the 5 spot. I say this because Owings has pitched almost 280innings as a major leaguer with a career ERA at 4.96 we KNOW what we are getting with him is a pitcher that is not going to turn in QS. He is going to give up 4+ runs in almost every start this year mark my words. Homer may get rocked but if he was up here for a long period of time I think he would adapt to the big league level

A career ERA of 4.96 means Owings is an above average number 4-5 starter. He is miles better than what we had last year in the 5th spot.

Why rush Bailey? Let the kid make his Louisville starts consistently throughout the year and see where he's at next spring. You keep bouncing him around between majors and minors and it's going to do nothing but hurt any progress he's made.

No one knows what we are going to get from Owind in May of 2009.

Wait and see and you will be surprised.

Pitching is a craft where a player gets better with more experience. Owings is still young at only 280 innings and he's still developing his craft. He didn't get to develop it the second half of last season, so he needs some time where the games count for him to get into a groove. I'm looking forward to see how he adjusts to things this month, especially with the pitching staff in a groove right now.

2 starts.....2 Wins since I posted this.

He might have had a complete game shutout last night if Dusty didn't have him retaliate with a HBP. He was at 89 pitches when he threw the pitch that hit the 1st Batter in the 8th.

He might get 3 more starts, so there's a good chance he could get 1 or 2 more wins. Nice when you get that from your 5th starter.

I dunno if he'll get three more this month. We have and 2 off days with a three game series against the Pads sandwiched in between so I wouldn't be surprised to see him skipped in the rotation next time around.

I'd like to see him kept in there as it would give all of our starters an extra day of rest but I wouldn't be surprised to see Dusty skip him. Especially since his next start would come against the Phillies.

So, Arroyo throws 119 on Sunday, which included that 1st Batter of the 8th inning that homered which basically put the game out of reach. Cordero hadn't pitched in days, and would have Monday off.

Why was Dusty pushing it with Arroyo? He was lucky, in Arroyo's own words, to get through 7 only giving up the two runs.

old post but...you are ready to get rid/keep in AAA with Homer so you are not making a valid point. What i was trying to say if Bailey was actually given a chance to stay in the 5 spot he WOULD IMPROVE with EXPERIENCE...he hasn't even came near the number of innings Owings has had at the Major League Level. Owings has had his chances move him to the bullpen.
