This is the only trip they're making to Miami this year, I think.

But at the same time, Dickerson's going to be an important part of the club and we've got to get him on track...that means playing time. It kinda goes both ways I think. If he doesn't play, he'll never get into a groove.

I don't mind playing Dickerson for a stretch, but it is too much to assume he will be an important part of this club. One good Sept does not a career make in the bigs. I'm not rooting against him at all, but he's got work to do before I pencil him in as a key part of this club. I'm rooting for you Chris.

Janish still languishes on the bench...

And I mentioned this in the Misc. Updates thread re: Dusty not moving Rosales up in the line up...Dusty says, "He's (Rosales) isn't a taker yet." You're right, Dusty, he only ranks at 17th in MLB in pitches seen per PA. Obviously, you're right, as always :banghead:

That said, I hope AGon proves me wrong and isn't a black hole of despair in the lineup. Go Reds!

Traveras made the first out and Dockerson grounded to the SS who threw the ball in the dirt for an error and Dickerson was safe.

One on one out.

Top of 1:

It always feels like home plate is so far away since the camera is so far away. BTW, there is no one at this game.

Willy T takes a strike and then bounces to the 3rd baseman Bonifacio. 1 out

Dickerson bounces to Rameriz. Cantu can't out the throw. Should be an error on Rameriz. It is. We'll take it.

(Johnson throws to 1st; Dickerson refuses to slide in; like last game) (He throws over again Dickerson just in, he half slid this time but got in)

Replay looked like Dickerson was out.

Votto slams one into right on a line. Single, Dickerson moves to 3rd.

Phillips plllllease don't ground into a DP. (Side not: Johnson throws 97, that's gas, folks)
Phillips half swings and the balls hit him in the hand, but he swung. Willy May Hays would do that. BP fouls off the next pitch, shakes his hand. It is certainly bothering him.
Phillips then K's swinging. Ball was off the plate 2 out

Bruce quickly falls behind 0-2. Votto got a nice jump for a steal but Bruce flies to CF. 3 out.

Made Johnson throw pitches at least.

After a 1/2, Reds 0 Marlins coming to bat.

No output from your cleanup hitter and don't take advantage of 2 on 1 out situation by striking and popping out. Sounds like SOP to me. I pray that Harang is on tonight.

Bottom of 1st:

I am going to have to learn these Marlin names.

Bonafacio grounds to a backhanding Phillips. Smooth as silk. Web gem. 1 out.
John Baker up. He had a double, a single, and a HR last game in Chicago. Harang K's him looking. It's a new game Mr. Baker. 2 out

Hanley Rameriz up. You may know him from Fantasy Baseball fame. He hammers a no doubter into Left. He loves to hit off Harang.

(Harang loves to get a game going with his fastball, I think Hanley knew this. He hit it on the first pitch)

No shutout tonight.

Cantu hits a sinking grounder to the right of Gonzo. He makes a great backhanded play. 3 out.

Minimal damage thanks to some great D.

After 1, Marlins 1 Reds 0.

Made no prediction about winning or losing, sir. It does get tiring, though to see the same non-production out of the 4-hole on a consistent basis without any answer from management.

I guess we'll pay Phillips there all season as he hits about .230?

Gonzo up. Game plan seems to be he can't lay off the high strike. Gonzo is proving them correct.

(Sorry IE messed up for me, reboot. I blame Regis.)

Willy T fouls a pitch just out of Cantu's reach and into the stands. He then K's looking. 1 out

(Seriously, there is no one at this game. I've seen minor league crowds that double this)

Dickerson takes strike 2, that was off the plate too. He then K's on a nasty curve. 2 out.

Votto takes strike 2, below the knees, not a strike. He works the count 3-2 and then lines one to Hermida who hauls it in. 3 out.

Harang worried about Bona, gets behind 2-0. Bona takes off on the 2-1, Baker fouls back. 2-2.

Baker then bounces by Harang to a diving Phillips who glove flips to Gonzo for the force. Web gem. 2 out

Hanley is taking some amazing hacks up there. If I'm Harang, I put on up in his grill. But, Harang won't do that. Rameriz works the count 3-2. Fouls off some pitches then walks.

(Marlins broadcast mentions this is the first time the Reds have had the lead off man on, let's hope its a good sign)

Jared Burton warming in the Reds pen.

Bruce gets locked up with a check swing inside. 2-2 count. I don't think he went. Bruce then singles to CF. Phillips to 3rd.

Ramon looks at strike 1. Too low to be a strike IMO. 1-1 pitch was a bit in. 2-1. Herandez can't lay off the slider. 2-2. 3-2. Hernandez singles by Cantu. BP scores. Bruce to 3rd.

Marlins have Dan Meyer up in the bullpen.

Johnson bounces one that the catcher makes a nice stop on. 1-0
Rosales looks at a strike that was off the plate. 1-1

Wow I thought that was gone.

That would've been halfway up the moon deck in GABP.

Glad Harang isn't pitching at home, loudest 2 runs i've seen him give up in a while.

Then again Gonzo's fly out to end the last inning, I believe would've been a HR at GABP also.

teh Dusty's determined to get Harang through this inning so he can pinch hit for him during the top of the 8th. I hope he makes it, because I'd have likely pulled him by now.

I will say this to any here who were advocating that Cantu should stay in Cincy. I could not have disagreed with you more. And I was wrong. Dead wrong. He's been a revelation in Florida this go round.

Bottom of 7:

Harang still in.

Bonafacio back up. He flies to a tracking Bruce. 1 out

Baker gets behind 0-2. Works back to 2-2. Then he singles into a trapping Dickerson's glove. Good try.

(Sad because Harang had Baker rung up on 0-2 and the ump didn't drop the hammer)

Hanley hits a ball to right a ton. Bruce reaches up on the wall and makes the catch. Then Bruce throws a seed to 1st and Baker gets back. I was more impressed with the throw! WOW! 2 out (That was a great play)

Cantu lines to Gonzo. (Good scouting HAHA) 3 out.

After 7, Reds 2 Marlins 2.

Let's keep it going on offense!

I think it was a good move to leave Aaron in. If you've got an important inning...do you really want to pull your Ace? For Weathers? Nah, I say you let Aaron show his worth. If he gives it up, at least you gave it up with your best pitcher on the bump.

And with that, he gets out of it. 2-2 after 7. Pinch hitter coming up.

I would have had no problems with Weathers there. It is why they are paying him the money they are, and he's been nails.

I'm just in, but I'm not sure I see how Dusty's handling our starters as "greed". I think he's saying, "they're compentent pitchers and can do the job." We're not used to that from either end, having the pitchers who that would be true of and a manager who seems to understand it.

BTW, what's the situation?

It's easy to pick on the offense when so many guys have slumped so far. Does anybody here really think Phillips is a .200 hitter? Come on.

And as I type this, Ramon singles home a run. 2-1 Marlins. Debbie downers.

Really? I don't consider it picking on the offense when the statistics are there that shows this (so far) is one of the worst offensive teams in major league baseball. It's a fact.

Do I think BP is a .200 hitter? It remains to be seen. I don't think so, but for now he is (.212 as we type). Combine him, Gonzalez, and Dickerson (or Hairston) in the lineup at similar levels, you have an anemic club. Of the three or four, Phillips will probably come out of it, but the others? I have my doubts. Remember that's three of the 8 position players hitting at .200 or below. Brutal.

Willy T has to make his one redeeming value shine right here - he's got to swipe second base easily. I wouldn't mind seeing him swipe second and third on consecutive pitches. Give us a chance to win the game here.

Hanley has excellent numbers against Harang, including tonight. At the point in the game where your offense just got you back into it you can't risk those numbers....in my opinion. You pay Weathers and Rhodes to take over those situations.....in my opinion. And Hanley took Harang to the wall in right...Dusty gambled and dodged a serious bullet.
