I'd like to have seen Nix in there tonight. With Votto out, we need all the offense we can get.

Augenstein throws in the upper 80's from what I've read. Hopefully the Reds can get to him early.

Yeah, a tie with the Cards and maybe with the Brewers also. They lead 8-4 in the 4th.

I know the kid is from AA, but he's been VERY dominant at AA. I don't think it's much of a stretch for him to jump to the bigs. He looks pretty darned good so far. He pounds the strike zone from what people are saying.

His stuff is average at best. His fastball sits in the upper 80's and he lacks an out pitch.

The biggest problem tonight might be the ump being mesmerized by the screwball action on his money pitch....because at least two of them, perhaps three....were outside the zone.

Last year, April 3, D-Backs at REDS. A 'kid" makes his MLB debut on the mound...

Has a perfect game through 5 innings. Line for the night is 7IP, 1H (a HR), 1ER, 10K, 0BB. Gets the win.

That "kid" was Johnny Cueto. Hopefully the same thing does not happen for the "kid" on the other team going against Cueto.

Too soon for the bunt, I agree. No need to do that against rookie pitcher. Let him unravel just by taking some pitches and swinging away.

Only advantage is that Cueto is off the bases.

I really don't like the Reds lineup tonight. I would have caught Hernandez and played Nix at first base. Against this rookie, I'd have at least three lefty batters in there.

I hope not. Nix needs to play vs RHP. I'd be looking for a better bat to platoon vs LHP in LF.

Don't know if you've been focused on Hairston, but his bat has been pretty darn good lately. So much so that I would hate for him to be out of the lineup. And he's not a defensive liability, like some other possibly righty outfielders.

Having said that, with this team, the best place for Hairston is shortstop. I just don't see Gonzalez making the same kind of offensive contribution and Hairston has acquitted himself well defensively at short.
