per fay:

Reds vs. Padres:

Willy Taveras cf
Jerry Hairston Jr. 3b
Joey Votto 1b
Brandon Phillips 2b
Jay Bruce rf
Ramon Hernandez c
Laynce Nix lf
Alex Gonzalez ss
Aaron Harang p

vs. RH Kevin Correia

Two other notes:

--I saw Votto on my way in to Petco. He said he's not quite 100 percent but he was good enough to play.

--The starters for the Philly series are listed as Johnny Cueto, Micah Owings and Aaron Harang. Owings was before Cueto in the rotation. Looks like they'll flip-flop them to keep Cueto on his turn.

I disagree here I like Brandon being aggressive in that situation especially with Gerut bobbling the ball. Gerut recovered nicely and made a good throw to beat him to the bag. Being aggressive on the basepaths usually leads to good things down the road.

Oh I agree he should have been taken out after 6, not that he was terrible, he simply wasn't. I even said back in post #152 of this thread that I would have pinch hit for Harang, before he started pitching the 7th and blew the lead.

Marty and Cowboy (and several on here) have said that Harang had a 'bad outing' tonight. I disagree.

I think Harang was just fine after 6 innings. Reds were up 3 to 2. Harang had thrown 97 pitches, and was clearly struggling tonight. The ump had a very small zone (for both teams). At that point, when his turn to hit came in the top of the 7th, we should have seen a pinch hitter. Had Dusty made that move, we might have kept the inning going or scored a run or two.

Instead, Harang went from having a Quality Start (2 runs allowed in 6 innings) to giving up 5 runs in 6 and a third. At the least, Dusty should have pulled him after the lead off single.

Of course, I do recognize that hindsight is 20-20, but I immediately thought it was a mistake to let Harang hit for himself.

Man I hate losing. Someone else mentioned it on the ORG: I hate playing a team when they are on a long losing streak. I'd much rather face a team that has won seven or eight straight than a team that has lost six or seven straight because things are bound to change. That's why I didn't feel all that positive about tonight's game.

But I'm calling a Reds win tomorrow night. Edinson Volquez throws seven innings of shutout baseball with 10+ strikeouts. :)
