Memo to the apparently grumpy Reds' radio announcing crew and Thom B with his confusion as to what has changed with Volquez after the first few innings tonite:

The concept of "if you are going to get to _______, get to him early" applies to Reds pitchers sometimes too. Volquez is a quality pitcher, and sometimes it takes a few innings for guys to get their rhythm.

Doesn't mean they don't care. Doesn't mean they are not trying hard. Just means that sometimes it takes a few innings to get right.

Nice strikeout by Lincoln who came in with a 3 and 0 count.

I've noticed that Lincoln's thrown better the last few times out. I wouldn't be shocked if Dusty let him stay in this game for another inning. Taking V out so early left several relief innings to be pitched and Massett is out.

I don't know how others think, but Dusty has been using the Rhodes and Weathers combo very often these days. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Lincoln and Burton. They've both had some time to straighten things out.

Anyone who criticizes Weathers isn't watching the game.

He's thrown the same pitches he always throws for strikes. This umpire wouldn't call a strike.

What's worse is that the Padres nonhitters are just standing there. They know they won't get strikes called on them. So they stand there.

Now Herrera gets a called third strike.

You guys can call Weathers a sixth inning pitcher, which is not so, he's pitched beautifully for years in the eighth and ninth. That one wasn't on him.
