Interesting:

The Reds are 4 games over .500 and are 4th in the NL Central.

The Pads are 7 games under .500 and are 3rd in the NL West.

The NL Central is no longer the laughing stock of the NL. ;)

Great ab by Dickerson, nothing like a leadoff double to get the day started.

And that is why you don't sacrifice in the first inning when the guy is already standing on 2B....

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest Hairston get out of the sacrifice bunt business.
3 horrific results from his last 3 attempts.

Why in the heck would they bunt Hairston instead of just hitting the ball to the other side? Every other team in MLB does it with ease against the Reds (hits the ball to the right side with a man on second and no outs). We decide to have a horrible bunter kill the inning for us. Brilliant!

GAC

I hate it when Baker has guys bunting in that situation. Why? And it was terrible base runing by CDick too on JHJ's bunt back to the pitcher.

Better yet, just hit the ball. Dickerson is a fast guy, he is going to score from 2B on nearly every hit you can get outside of an infield single. Why waste an out in the 1st inning?

This is the biggest reason that I decided not to drive down to SD (a few outside things too) but Bronson Arroyo drives me nuts! I would rather see anyone else pitch for the Reds other than Arroyo. Even Lincoln. Hmmmm, come to think of it, there's a good chance that we'll see Lincoln.

I've got the Tim McCarver show on MLB (I know, I know, it's my own fault....) and he's interviewing Carlton Fisk. Naturally, the HR in the 6th game in '75 comes up.

Fisk comes off to me as bitter. Also, I've never heard him note that, despite that HR, the Reds actually won the WS. There are a lot of general baseball fans out there that think the BoSox won that series and it really chaps my butt....

BTW, seeing the fingers on Fisk's right hand, they look like they are a map for the Mississippi River.

Yep. Those were two tough games to swallow.

Beating Peavy with Arroyo is a tough task.

Going into this series the Reds were hot and the Pads were stone cold. If the Reds get blanked in SD, frankly, that's not acceptable.

I tend to look at stats like that very skeptically but, I have to admit, it seems to be happening too often for it not to have some validity. It was (just a tiny part) of why I didn't want to drive to SD to watch Bronson Arroyo.

Not sure why Arroyo is back out there after having thrown 110 pitches. I would have brought in Danny Ray, who faced one batter last night, and pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the inning. If the Reds came back, Cordero could pitch the 9th. Tomorrow's an off-day.

Well, overall, BA kept the Reds in the game today, after a very shaky start. Going against Peavy, the Reds still had a chance to tie all the way into the 9th inning. Finished road trip 3 - 3, which is better than in years past. Unfortunately, the California portion never seems to go well.

Off day tomorrow, with Phillies coming to town on Tuesday.

I leave town for three days and...

Oh well. This team is better than the last four Reds teams, but still has it's problems. One is chemistry. NO, I cannot define that term, but they seemed to have it just three games ago. The chemistry we saw in Arizona disappeared in San Diego. I'll leave you to your own conclusions on that, but more on that later. I just feel good that I didn't have to watch this series. It would have broken my heart.

I watched all three games and the reds looked like a completly different team than the last series againist the dbacks. We all know that the past few years that we have not won at all out west and it really looked like they siked themselfs out. They played like they knew they could'nt win that series b/c it was in california. They played like they did earlier in the season scoring three runs with three hits.It was terrible!!!!!!:thumbdown

John Fay messed up a little bit when he mentioned after the Arizona series that this proved the Reds might be shaking their poor record in the Pacific time zone. But he was mistaken. While the club was playing three hours behind, effectively playing on "Pacific time", they in fact were playing the games in Mountain Standard Time. Arizona doesn't go on Daylight savings time, so they're three hours behind, but technically it wasn't Pacific time. Well, there you have it.
