Every year the Reds carry some complete bushleague clown with no business in the big leagues, every year it's infuriating, every year people tell me not to complain because it's "only the 25th man", and every year "the 25th man" ends up getting dozens of critical at-bats and costs the club games.

Just another rite of spring.

Nice inside-out swing by Brandon on the first pitch gives the Reds the early lead. I think Phillips too often goes up trying to park the first pitch, he's a much more effective hitter when he uses the whole field.

Oh, I don't think many disagree with ya this year. Between he and Gonzo we have 2 of thee worst offensive players in baseball in the field tonight, yet Rosales sits. JHJ should have been in LF with Rosales at 3B tonight. But I'm guessing this is McDonalds opportunity to prove he can play up here to Dusty. Too bad Dusty doesn't already know it.

It doesn't help BTW that Bruce struck out on one of the worst K pitches I have ever seen. Terrible bat control there.

1-2-3 1st for Harang K'd Ibanez

Bottom 1st Taveras blooped one in between SS/CF/LF, Willy went to steal 2nd had it stole but JHJ simultaneously bounced out to 3rd. BP dbl down the 1st base line on the 1st pitch scoring Taveras, caused Moyer to Balk BP advances to 3rd. Bruce K'd, Ramon BB'd on 5 pitches, Gonzo flys out trying to pull an outside pitch.

1-2 2nd K'd Werth then Victorino doubled into the LCF gap with 2 down. K'd Feliz for the 3rd out.

Bottom 2nd D McD swings at a 2-0 pitch and grounds out to 3B. Hanigan goes 0-2 works it back to 2-2 and takes Moyer deep to LF 2-0 Reds. Harang K's, Taveras refuses to take more than one Ball pops out to Utley in short RF.

Top 3rd Coste leads off with a Ground rule double in LCF gap. Moyer bunts him to 3rd. Harang K's Rollins with a high strike (4th K). Utley bounces out to 2B. This ump BTW Adrian Johnson I think his name is, is calling a nice game early on here.

Bottom 3rd JHJ works the count full then doubles to CF off the wall. BP tries to bunt for a hit down the 1st base line Moyer tracks it down (scoops and tosses in one motion with his glove) and then gives BP the biznezz (BP was laughing), JHJ to 3rd. Bruce bloops one into RF 3-0, then Bruce promptly gets picked off trying to steal. Ramon dribbles one to Moyer.

Every time Jim Day appears onscreen it's uncomfortable, they've always got him sitting in some weird corner of the ballpark around people who are menacingly drunk or profane, there's always these creepy subtexts about hot chicks or drinking...it's like the Reds game is interrupted by a David Lynch short twice an evening.

I'm surprised we pulled one out of this series frankly, the Phils hitters seem to be in a nice malaise. But Harang was a true stopper tonight, coming out and not pitching to contact was a wise approach.

Overall this may mean nothing, but I don't see the Reds (allowing decent health from starters) being a team that gets mired in a long losing streak...just takes one performance like this from the staff to snap the streak in a hurry.

It's a story of the Nice and not so nice, gang:

Nice:

The pitching staff who did it all
Traveras, Hairston, Phillips and Brue and Hannigan going 10-18 with all 5 RBI's

The Not so Nice:

Gonzales continuting to not hit. 1-4, but batting .178 this far into the season
McDonald going 0-7 in the series and batting .175 and is 0-7 as a starter
The top of the lineuup going 10-18 while the other four go 2-14

Giving up outs time after time to Gonzalez and McDonald is just insane. Regardless, we win and break the streak when once again we pitch well only proves that we need offense especially with Volquez out for who knows how long and Votto not playing.

I guess that's just baseball tonight.

I have to agree 100 percent. McDonald ? Seriously? On the matter of Gonzo his game is shot as is his career. He is not Ozzie Smith and this team can not afford another defensive guy that most realistically will not hit. The other is Taveras but I am trying to remain optimistic.
