Per Fay:

Chris Dickerson in for Willy Taveras 8
Jerry Hairston 5
Jay Bruce 9
Brandon Phillips 4
Laynce Nix 7
Ramon Hernandez 3
Alex Gonzalez 6
Ryan Hanigan 2
Aaron Harang 1

vs. RH Dave Bush

Taveras has a tight right hamstring. He hurt it when he slipped fielding Prince Fielder's flyout in the sixth inning last night.

It's good to see Brandon Phillips is back. Do they think Taveras is day to day or possible dl?

Doesn't sound too bad with Willy T, hard to know with hamstrings though.

Good stroke from Dickerson to start the game. Lead off single.

Wow, Reds up 2-0 with no outs in the 1st. That's big.

membengal
05-30-2009, 07:10 PM
Hope Bruce doesn't press in Votto's absence. When he learns that he can control the plate, he's going to be special. But he can't make up for Votto's absence by himself.

Bruce Ks.

Phillips gutting it out with a broken tip on his thumb. Glad to have him back.

I still think it would not be the worst play in the world for this team to call Alonso up, but I am guessing Walt et al are firmly in agree to disagree mode with me.

Phillips HOMERS.

3-0 Reds.

3-0 in the 1st with this lineup is something.

I think it was George Grande and Thom B who conspired to injure Rickie Weeks. They sure do love to talk about Craig Counsell. Tonight, it's Grande getting to hand some love Counsell's way.

A gritty veteran awesome neverbeforeseen halloffame single back through the middle for Counsell.

We are all the better for having witnessed his veteran awesomeness.

To his credit, he sat him down tonight. If WT is out for a few more games and Dickerson hits like he has tonight, WT may get Nixed.

I love stolen bases but big base stealers like WT tend to get their legs messed up during the course of the season. Good to have someone like CD to fill in.

Excepot for that Wednesday game, Jay's been looking pretty rough at the plate. He should have wailed on that last pitch from Bush. If he sees more than a handful of fastballs in StL, I'll be very shocked.

I'm 'watching' this on gamecenter and Bruce stuck out swinging. They didn't show the location of the last pitch but, of the first 5 pitches, 4 were shown as out of the strikezone.

Jay has to stop helping pitchers and start waiting for a ball he can drive.

I've said before, when he first came up, I was more impressed with his patience than anything else. That lasted about 2 weeks and we haven't seen it since.

Come on Jay boy, make the pitchers throw something that you want. Don't go up there to help them.

Because his chance of scoring with two outs and him standing at third is about 28%. If you think his chance of scoring is better than that, you send him. I'm guessing that the defenders don't make two great throws better than 28% of the time.
