Per Fay:

Chris Dickerson 8
Adam Rosales 5
Brandon Phillips 4
Jay Bruce 9
Ramon Hernandez 3
Laynce Nix 7
Alex Gonzalez 6
Ryan Hanigan 2
Edinson Volquez 1

vs. RH Todd Wellemeyer

Phillips is hitting third, Bruce fourth.

Willy Taveras will likely play tomorrow. He's available tonight. Jerry Hairston is sick with a flu-like illness. He didn't take batting practice.

As noted earlier, Yonder Alonso was promoted to Double-A Carolina.

Volquez threw two changeups for strikes to Pujois. Then he threw him a fastball which Pujois handled with ease. You don't throw fastballs in the strike zone to Albert unless, maybe, if you throw 97, which Volquez does not.

Reds better not give up too many more or this will be an early night.

I have to say for the last 8-9 years I've watched Reds baseball and gotten mad at ownership, managerial decisions, general manager, etc. It's not like that this year by and large, they just have had really bad luck. Votto hurt, EE, Volquez, Taveras, and Gonzo. It's disappointing.

Cardinals announcers say thats normally a sign for elbow problems...

Yeah. Pinky and ring finger is the distribution of the ulnar nerve, which runs under the medial epicondyle of your humerus (basically right where the "funny bone" is). Compression of that nerve can lead to the numbness. Could also be something higher up, e.g. where the nerve travels in the neck or shoulder, but if it's just the pinky and ring finger I'm guessing the problem is at the elbow.

Probably just inflammation at the elbow compressing the nerve. Same type of thing that happens if you sleep on your arm weird. Probably whatever the main problem is caused the inflammation, which caused the numbness. I doubt the primary problem is a nerve issue.

That is a pretty big overreaction to the limited info we have - which basically just says he had some swelling at the elbow.

Edit: I'm not saying it's couldn't be something serious, just that we don't have nearly enough info to come to that conclusion.

Probably. I also wonder if the use of "numbness" is a little misleading and what they really mean is tingling or a "pins and needles" type feeling. I would classify them completely different as a non-medic. For example, I've had tingling in my right foot for about six weeks which would be caused by some type of nerve compression yet it doesn't keep me from walking or even doing endurance racing. Positive thoughts.
