First inning thoughts:

(1) I didn't think Theriot got all of that ball he hit out. The ball might fly at GABP today.

(2) I thought the Cubs buzzed Phillips high and tight with a purpose. Maybe in retaliation for his comments Friday night?

Bruce could learn a lot from Dusty--remember, Baker was a young, ultra-talented OF when he first came up with the Braves. So he knows about the growing pains that Bruce is going through.

Lefty in to pitch to Dickerson with man on third and two out.

I would let Rosales hit for Dickerson. Move Hairston to CF. Play Rosales at third base.

I'm sure Dusty will not do this and will let Dickerson hit. I hope he comes through against the lefty.

Way Reds offense is going I would want to have the percentages on my side with a man on third in a close game.

Reds have one. Jonny Gomes. He just started today because of Bruce's need for tutoring from the manager.

Dusty just chose to keep Dickerson in there, a decision which is difficult to understand when you analyze it.

With only a four-man bench and Bruce already being used, it is doubtful that Dickerson would be lifted for a PH. (Unless you use Owings, and leave Bruce in the game as part of a double switch.)

Guess I don't understand why the length of the bench matters when you are down a run, man on third, and have a lefty pitcher in there in the late innings. Seemed like a pretty key spot to me and Reds had Owings and Rosales both available.

Guess I don't understand why the length of the bench matters when you are down a run, man on third, and have a lefty pitcher in there in the late innings. Seemed like a pretty key spot to me and Reds had Owings and Rosales both available.

I usually see some decent reasoning for Dusty's moves or nonmoves. Not that time.

It's called economy of the bench. We RedsZoners used to complain loud and long when Jerry Narron burned through his bench like General Sheridan through the Shenandoah Valley.

At 3rd base? He's been beyond awful. That's his 3rd error in the last 2 games.

Two games is not indicative of an entire season. He's been flashing some pretty good leather all year long. Sure, he's made a few errors recently, but to call him awful is to ignore the numerous plays he's made all year long that saved runs, saved innings and in some cases, saved games. He's brought more to the team defensively this year, in my judgment, than he's cost them.

Hairston doesn't have the arm for third base or shortstop. He's sure handed and has good range. He tried to force that throw and made a bad one.

Narron overused his relievers, which Dusty doesn't, a different problem.

Economy is fine, but giving away run opportunities close and late is not fine.

Lead off hitter, Phillips, gets on, maybe Reds will do something here. Marmol having some control problems.

Agree KC. Dickerson against a lefty is not good.

I agree that Dickerson is not the optimal choice in that situation. But with Bruce already used, I doubt that Dusty wanted to use another position player (Rosales) at that point in the game, and though he has no qualms about using Owings as a PH for the pitcher, I question whether he is willing to use Micah to PH for a position player (though he would have been my choice in that situation as a righty pinch-hitter).

Just to second guess the GM for a change, if the Reds still had Castillo, who can hit lefty, instead of thirteen pitchers, they would have been much better off there.

Guess I also didn't understand Herrera here. Previously, in home games, Dusty has used Cordero in this spot. No save is possible in this game for the Reds, so use Cordero in the top of the ninth.

Why different this time? Not as if there are tons of lefties in the Cubs lineup.

So now, Herrera gives up a walk and a sacrifice and now Dusty makes the move presumably to Cordero. And this isn't the situation where Cordero excels, coming in with a man on second in a tie game.

Not very happy with the Reds roster or some of the decisions today.

It's Weathers, not Cordero.

Two game situations today and dusty makes the wrong move both times. He makes a curious double switch to get his worst player in the line-up and move the pitcher's spot up 4 spots. Now he wastes a pitcher late in a tie game.

Leaving Dickerson to hit against the lefty in the seventh was the worst move.
