So was there anything worth seeing at the pregame? The Sox feed only briefly showed Marty's introduction of Hank, Ali and Sugar Ray.

Fantastic coverage. What a tremendous atmosphere at the GABP.

BeBe Winans did a resounding version of the National Anthem
Great flag presentation and flyover by the Air Force
Frank Robinson 1st pitch short hops home....Doggy Perez w/ a great scoop.

The Reds players were really into it as well......perhaps a small taste of a World Series game for these young guys :)

A Johnny Cueto 1 hitter would be a great way to top it off.

I really like that Cincinnati is being showcased for this instead of past tensions (not to reopen them at all). It's a great night for Cincinnati and the Reds.

It'll be tough with Richard's balk/move. Some umps would call that.

TheNext44

Taveras should just take off on first move by Richard. He has a high kick and long delivery.

Brutus

The only two times Richard has used that slide step is on his offspeed pitches.

Walk to Phillips.

Double steal on the 1st pitch. Please.

VR
06-20-2009, 07:59 PM
WT is a world class base stealer. Pierzynski has thrown out 3 of 41 base stealers this year.

What is going on?

Brutus
06-20-2009, 07:59 PM
There is absolutely no reason they should not be running in this situation. With this slow delivery to home plate, and not holding Phillips at first, a double steal would be easy.

I was not all that upset at him not running from first. It was obvious he's tough to get a read on those moves. But those first few pitches from second, with Phillips on first and Konerko not holding him on, that was the time to go. Of course, they finally pulled the trigger so I have no complaints. Just FYI from the scouting end, Richard only used the slide step twice and both times it was on offspeed stuff. So the rest of this game, if I'm Cincinnati, I'm running this team to death.

White Sox announcers (game is on CSN here in Chicago) have been talking about a blister problem since the 2nd inning. Notice the lack of sliders. You mean the crack Cincinnati press and announcers didn't get the memo?

Herrera induces a ground ball to end the inning.

In regards to the blister thing...I did notice Johnny looking at his fingers after the first inning like there was something wrong when he was walking off the field at the end of the inning. Don't know if there's something to it...but there may be.

Should be another error on the White Sox there on the 2nd baseman. Hairston being the beneficiary.

Dusty implied yesterday that the Reds aren't anxious to bring Bailey up again, that he's been rushed and needs to be ready this time. But if Cueto needs to miss a turn, with Maloney now at AAA, we're sure to see Bailey pretty soon.

I'd like to see Bailey stay at AAA as long as possible this year to keep building his confidence and refining his stuff, but if he comes up it sure will be interesting. He's been dominant at AAA lately.

Massett is showing signs of reverting to previous form or possibly injury. Last time he couldn't find the plate. This time, maybe to compensate, he grooved the first pitch. Frustrating because Herrera didn't pitch that bad and probably, in retrospect, had a better chance of getting the out.

Don't know why the Reds tried to score Dickerson on Willy T's third hit of the night. He was thrown out on a close play. It shouldn't have been close, Dickerson should have been stopped at third, but he made it pretty close with his speed.

Reds need to take two of three this series. They are .500 on the road but have to win at home. If they lose tonight and tomorrow and split the homestand, it's a disappointment.

Reds also need to focus on Cueto. He didn't pitch that well last time either, although the runs were unearned. If he has a blister problem or whatever, they need to give him some extra rest and get him right, he's key.
