They don't hit much at home either. In June, they've had 9 home games where they averaged 3.55 runs and 8.2 hits while the opposition has averaged over a run more and 3 hits more. They were 4-5 in those games. This team has two or three guys who are major league calibber hitters.

And the recent poor pitching of Aaron Harang continues yet again tonight. He's getting severly outpitched by Jeremy Freakin' Sowers. And he's lucky Sizemore was called out when he was clearly safe on the steal attempt or it would be even worse right now. Harang's stuff is average lately, he's not aggressive and his control seems to get worse every time I see him. Not good.

Harang, tonight, seems to be feeling the effects of the San Diego relief outing in May 2008.

Reds offensive approach in road games is poor. They have 18 fewer walks in road games despite playing three more road games than home games. Somebody needs to work on this.

Yea, I'm thinking the best contribution that Harang can provide to this organization going forward is trade bait.

Glad to the see the offense last night is holding up. Freakin' Sowers throwing balls down the middle at 88-89 and our guys are either hacking or looking at called third strikes. I quit watching after watching Bruce argue a called third strike that appeared to be middle in.

Now a double for Peralta and it's 7-0.

Harang leaves the premises.

Just brutal all the way around for the Reds tonight.

The starting pitching is showing signs of deterioration. This sometimes happens to teams when the pitchers constantly get no run support. The pitchers try to be too fine, they fear giving up anything, and it makes it tough to pitch well.

Burton now in.

Blitz Dorsey

Harang made this big deal about losing weight in the offseason ... but if anything it's taken velocity away from him. Aaron, you might want to mix some weight training in with that so you get stronger. The weight loss sure hasn't helped him. Now he's a big 6-7 guy getting clocked about the same on his fastball as a soft-tosser like Sowers. Not that bad, but they were pretty close tonight on the radar. Man this season has gone to hell fast. I guess I shouldn't be surprised given what we've seen over the last decade.

Blitz Dorsey

I don't know if it's the league. Maybe. I still think that it's hard to pitch without run support. You start to make the pitches too good because you're afraid to walk guys, afraid of giving up baserunners.

When a team has lousy pitching, the hitters start to press. When a team has lousy hitting, the pitchers start to press.

The main point is that the Reds' OPS on the road is in the .650 range. This won't cut it and has to improve. I wonder if playing home games at GABP contributes to this problem. Whatever, this offense is brutal, particularly in away games.

It was the 3rd out.
Last night, they were showing the girls with the "I [heart] Johnny Gomes" t-shirts on, then he starts talking about it being a steamy night, with the camera still on the girls, and the worst thing for hitters like Johnny Gomes is....how hot it gets under those helmets.

Not only was I saying "oh no, what's he gonna say here," but you could tell by Welsh's pregnant pause that he didn't know where he was going either. I hope I'm not repeating from last night's game thread, but that was classic.

He said something like "stick your finger in the dike" before.

I lol'd hard. I wonder if he knew how bad that sounds.

Hanigan walks. Two on.

Makes no sense to me that Hanigan is sitting on the bench. He has patience. Hanigan, Dickerson, Gomes, and of course Votto are the guys with the best approach in the road games. They should all play somewhere.

Now Bruce will face a lefty. Bruce needs to get going in these road games, his road numbers need much improvement.

Bruce Ks on a high pitch. He was hitting .210 coming into that at bat. Pitcher is wild high and Bruce just swings away.

I'm not sure what Bruce thought he could do with that strike 3 pitch. The infield chatter got to him. They said "batter, batter, swing" and he couldn't hold back.

I'm not the kind of guy who favors major shake-ups.

Walt, majorly shake things up. Please. You're not out of this yet, but you need to do something to inject some fire into this lineup and do it quick. Pitching kept us in games early on, then the bats came alive in May, now we can't seem to depend on either one.
