Even a player with a 1.034 OPS (1.111 vs. LH) makes an out on occasion.

When he puts the first pitch into play this year, he was hitting .500. It's not always a good strategy to take the first pitch from a pitcher who's throwing, for the most part, first pitch strikes.

I don't think it's puzzling at all. I suspect the FO made the decision that if Gomes was going to be productive this year, it was not going to be by sitting the bench through the first six weeks, getting an occasional at-bat. It was going to be by sending him to Louisville, getting him 4 ABs every day, and then bringing him later. There's a real possibility that if he had gotten stuck in the 25th man role at the beginning of the season he wouldn't be producing anything now.

Wow:eek:

And I am really getting on board w/ the Nix/Gomes platoon in LF. When you factor in the $$$ they cost vs replacement, I think WJ would be hard pressed to find better out there this year.

That said, SS is still an offensive black hole. But at least Dusty looks like he's figured out that CD should be starting vs RHP:thumbup:

Great outing thus far for Owings. I mean, for a #5, the guy has done better than anyone would have hoped for. I mean, he's killin' it, from a #5 starter perspective.
