Here's what I did: I took away the 2 best and the 2 worst starts from Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, and Owings and calculated their new numbers. (Obviously, the starts I picked area bit subjective, but most are pretty easy to pick.) I took the 1 best and 1 worst from Volquez and here's how they end up.
2009 Overall Numbers
IP ERA K BB WHIP
Harang: 98 3.95 80 21 1.39
Cueto: 97.2 2.86 70 28 1.14
Arroyo: 92.2 5.54 50 35 1.46
Owings: 83.2 4.63 50 42 1.55
Volquez: 49.2 4.35 47 32 1.33
Adjusted Numbers
IP ERA K BB WHIP
Harang: 73 3.57 64 18 1.42
Cueto: 72 1.38 48 5 1.11
Arroyo: 69 4.95 38 25 1.45
Owings: 61 4.43 36 32 1.58
Volquez: 36.2 4.42 37 27 1.45
Harang
Worst: 5/30 @ Mil. and 6/26 @ Cleveland
Best: 4/12 vs Pit. and 5/20 vs Philly
Cueto
Worst: 6/20 vs ChW and 6/25 @ Toronto
Best: 5/3 vs Pit. and 4/27 vs Houston
Arroyo:
Worst: 4/25 vs Atl and 5/6 vs Mil.
Best: 5/1 vs Pit and 5/27 vs Houston
Owings:
Worst: 5/21 vs Philly and 6/23 @Toronto
Best: 4/26 vs Atl and 5/12 @ AZ
Volquez:
Worst: 4/13 @ Mil
Best: 4/29 vs Hou
Just some food for thought. . . a few surprising numbers to try and rid of the outliers in their starts. Had I went another start, I think Arroyo's numbers would be even better.
