Grats Johhny Cueto also.

Oh wait.

Agreed. Unreal snub. What sort of numbers do you need??

Not to mention Phillips not making it and Orlando Hudson making it.

Marquis: 10-5, 3.87 ERA, 1.31 WHIP
Lilly: 7-6, 3.35 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
Cueto: 8-4, 2.69 ERA, 1.12 WHIP

Wow.

WILD THING

I am absolutely shocked. Cueto got the shaft big time. I cannot believe he didn't get invited, especially when looking at the stats posted by xavr1.

Wow is putting it mildly. What a complete and utter farce.

They picked Lilly and Marquis and not Cueto? That stinks. Brandon Phillips gets hosed because Pittsburgh has to have a representative.

Hey, look who made the All-Star team; everyone's favorite whipping boy from the '06 season - Ryan Franklin. He used to get hammered on this board.

Not even worth watching the game. Coco  They'll probably use him in a non-save situation and blow it for the NL.

Oh well...

Got me thinking: When was the last time the Reds had 3+ all-stars in the game? I can't recall. The last several years, it seems like we just get our token/sympathy pick.

Votto should have made the team. I know he missed some time, but didn't McCann miss significant time as well? By the ASB, Joey will have 230 some plate appearances. That is good enough for me.

Considering how little catching talent there is in hte majors Mccann could have missed the whole 1st half and could have made it.

Wow, I know people are upset, but how about a little congrats to Cordero. He's been great this year, and is a big reason the reds are still in it. The current cornerstone of perhaps the best pen in baseball. I know people wanted Cueto, but I'm very happy that Cordero has been very good this year. It's a shame we can't have a thread celebrating a player having an outstanding year.

Agreed. Congrats to Cordero. He's been having a great year. There will undoubtedly be some big snubs every year, but who cares? While it would be great for Johnny, it happens every year and there will be injured pitchers he will probably replace. . . not to mention we can still vote him on.

not to mention we can still vote him on.

actually, because of the genius of the MLB, there are only 5 guys to choose from to vote on. no Reds are on the lineup, naturally

Thanks! That was both fun and depressing to look at! I love how in the 70s there were at least 5 Red allstars. Then you look at this decade...screw our owners and gm.

Since the Home Run Derby is already a gimmick they should spice it up a little. Any HR under 450 feet is worth one point, 450-500 feet two points and over 500 feet three points.
Face it, the crowd likes seeing the ball fly out of the park, but when it goes into the upper deck they really get crazy. And isn't that what the HRD is all about? Fan excitement?

You think it just took fifteen years for someone to notice?

I am saying if Wakefield had the exact same set of lifetime statistics but played in Pittsburgh or Kansas City or, sad to say, Cincinnati, he wouldn't be attending any All-Star game festivities in 2009. And his selection to team is basically a joke.

Here is my question to you. Do you think Tim Wakefield deserved to be named to the All Star team based on the way he has pitched in the first half of 2009?

PedroBourbon

I was shocked Josh Hamilton made it, as a starter no less. Didn't he miss about the same number of games as Votto?

If I did, do you think I would have called his selection a lifetime achievement award?
