Go ahead and get your hopes up. Even when he has down starts, which he will at his age, we can all see now that his stuff is legit. That is reaaaalllll easy gas he is throwing, and as he continues to have command, the Reds really have something here. I look forward to watching him pitch, even with his inevitably growing pains.

Agreed, Nix has to stop in his tracks on that play. Most of the time the second baseman would then throw it to first to force out that runner, leaving the original runner in a rundown.

In that situation, a rundown allows the runner to score from third.

Tonight might have been a good night to give him off especially with Gomes batting so well against Lopez. Unfortunately sending him to AAA won't improve his approach at the plate.

Facing three lefties this series, I think they'd rest him against one of the lefties, not tonight against Lopez.

And I don't know how anyone knows whether AAA would improve his swing. Of course, it doesn't matter because he obviously is not going to AAA.

But I hope the Reds have some plan for helping Bruce improve at the plate.

membengal

Bailey continues to throw about 80% fastballs to the Phils tonight. Like to see him mix it up a bit.

Why? He's got command of it. Schilling, among others, has said there is nothing more devastating that a good fastball with command. If he's got that tonight, keep pumping it. Rather see that than him make mistake with the curve, which hasn't been as sharp...

The problem is is that his stroke hasn't changed since he has been here. He hasn't made any adjustments, sending him to triple A and seeing him bat .315 will only reinforce that he doesn't need to adjust his swing or approach.

You keep pumping fastballs against a team like the Phillies and eventually they will make you pay no matter how devestating. You have to mix in a few breaking balls to keep these guys honest. The last three or four batters came looking for nothing but fastballs against Homer.

Don't understand the reluctance to use Micah Owings in that spot. Dickerson was a sure out againt Romero.

This is going to be a tough game to win, the late innings guys have pitched a lot lately.

Key play of the game was Bruce hitting into a double play when a fly ball would have scored the third run.
