A quiet Friday night, a house full of dogs glad to have some company (my parents are out of town...I'm house/dog sitting), satellite TV, high speed internet, a few coldies in the fridge and Reds baseball.

This isn't bad! I hope to watch an exciting, fun game! It's been a while since I've been able to actually watch one. George and Chris on the call, which will be interesting since I rarely get that experience. :)

The last time Arroyo faced the Brewers it wasn't pretty.... 1 inning, 9 ERs.

chat is open! :beerme:

Good to see we've speed at the top of the lineup and OBP at the bottom. That Dusty sure does know how to build an effective lineup.

An achy Dickerson is a better leadoff hitter than a healthy Tavares.

Both Braun and Fielder give it a ride, but the ball stays in the yard. 0-0 headed to the bottom of the 1st.

Thom and Cowboy were commenting on this extensively. They advocated batting Dickerson 1st, and hannigan second....wow. They specifically said that we need high OBP guys in front of Votto and Phillips.

EE still trying to pull everything in site, but manages to roll over on one enough that it dribbles down the 3B line and Gamel can't get to it fast enough.

1-0 Reds

Encarnacion singled to center with Nix on 1st and Cameron had the ball go through his legs allowing Nix to score and Encarnacion to reach 3rd.

I'll tell ya what I know you are not talking about Welsh but listening to him this year it seems like he has been reading RZ, he's made an awful lot of astute points throughout the season which jive with things we tend to come to a conclusion on here. Never noticed him doing that in prior seasons.

I'm with you on that.

Also, I'm sure some of the sports guys on WLW radio do the same thing in order to help them come up with points for debate on any given evening.

EE follows with a single, knocking in Votto. 3-0 Reds.

That EE can hit quite well when he is healthy...

Lord I hate to see Counsell come to the plate! I swear it seems he gets a hit 75% of the time he comes up against us.

My initial reaction is the Reds caught a break on the Cameron slide. Good ole' hard nosed baseball, IMO. I'll wait for the replay.

So I'm guessing they called the double play because the runner slid 10 feet beyond the bag?

On the replay, he began his slide when he got above the bag. Since his intent was to go past the bag, that opened him up to interference.

Improbably, Arroyo at 16 consecutive scoreless innings.

I don't think it was quite that late, durl. It was a rookie ump. I don't know the rule specifically, but I don't think a vet makes that call. Either way, good deal for our beloved Reds.

Slowing it down on my DVR, Cameron's backside didn't make contact with the ground until he was at least even with the bag. I'm all for hard slides to break up double plays, but I believe his late slide put him too far away from bag and directly into the fielder.

Now I believe Welsh has a VERY good point in that they could have NOT called interference because it appears that Phillips didn't intend to make a throw to 1st.

I've never seen a guy this wildly inconsistent. He either wins or loses games by himself.

If Eddie can play the way everyone seems to think he's capable, it could change the whole look of this team. It could fill the void rather than needing a trade to hang in or it could allow them to focus on a trade for other needs.

Crazy, I just hear EE talk and it struck me as odd. I had thought I had heard him speak before but I must not have. He sounds like a Mature Dominican Froggy. But he can talk that way all he likes as long as he plays like he has lately.

Nice game by EdE & BA. If this team is going to stay interesting at all, they need big 2nd halves from each. I would still gladly take solid young talent for either while they're "hot" though.

I suppose they aren't counting Hatcher due to his being in the postseason but his was 9 in a row (reaching base) to begin that WS IIRC.

3rd base is not a need.

Our boy Edwin is finally healthy and that's a good thing!

Now if Dusty would only move him up in the batting order to insure him more ABs.

I believe the club record of 10 hits is held by Bip Roberts in 1992.
