I don't like Gomes in RF. I don't think he has enough range. I can live with limited range in LF, but not in CF or RF. Gomes should play LF, and Dickerson/Nix/Hairston should play RF.

And I'll take Janish over Rosales at SS.

Taveras single.
Hairston goes 3-2, fouls off 4 more pitches, then walks.

mbgrayson
07-18-2009, 07:27 PM
JHJ draws a walk on the 10th pitch of the AB. Two on, no outs...Votto up...

KoryMac5

Jerry worked for that walk.

VR

Votto goes 3-2 as well, fouls off 2, then grounds out to 2nd. Runners were going....2nd and 3rd with 1 out.

mbgrayson
07-18-2009, 07:31 PM
Parra is 19 pitches into the game and has finally got an out, as Votto bounces out to 2nd. JHJ and WT were running, so they were advanced to 2nd and 3rd....

You'd think a half season of boasting perhaps the worst overall offense in the NL would be enough to compel Dusty to reconsider his speed at the top of the order, OBP at the bottom, inversion. Dusty doesn't know the meaning of the word adaptation though, so I wouldn't expect many adjustments in which personnel he uses, or how he uses them.

Welsh commenting on scouts at the park and more specifically the number of them. Saying "lately", saying there is 2-3 times more scouts than usual (about 12-13 of them) even for this time of the year. Including teams that maybe shouldn't have scouts there like the Nats, Angels & Orioles.

Complete implosion by Harang. When a guy is suddenly elevating his offspeed pitches to that degree, I'm not sure how you wait 5 batters to go out there and seek to rectify it. He was still hanging the curve, even on that flyout to LF.

I love it. It's Manny Parra -- who the Brewers had to send to the minors not too long ago because he was such a train wreck -- that is able to hang in there mentally and not fall apart. Harang on the other hand is giving the Reds exactly what he's given most of the year: not very much. That fourth inning was a joke. And he's lucky the official scorer gave him a gift error or all four runs would have been earned.

Yeah but they might as well call it unless the Reds offense plans to show up during the delay.

I'm not sure that's generally expect on a daily basis this season, is it? As much as I would have liked to have seen what this club could have accomplished without the injuries that have gone around (and clearly the club had deficiencies), there is no question that this is one club which has little chance of making comebacks. I think they've only come back in two games all season, although two of the six losses recently saw them come back more than they've done any other time. Still it falls short. Maybe somebody's banging heads. If I was Harang I'd do it (or at least sue for non-support).

Truth is, Arroyo is so up and down, it's hard to put a label on him Harang is usually pretty solid and has been except for a couple of blowups. If the defense (iow's if we had a good fielding infield and outfield) was better, Harang would have given up on two runs and still lost. The pressure from that is probably more than we know and does effect performancem but let's get to the crux of the problem.

I'm going to get curcified for this, but Wayne Krivisy will go down in history as the guy who gave more early to so many he should get a lifetime welfare card. I think everyone was happy that he tied up those two, but he did it one year too early. And gave too much money. He did the same with many others, who many shrug off by saying that's what you pay for MLB talent, but I would say they talent was suspect. I'm not going to fault Harang or Arroyo or Freel or Castro or Cromier or Stanton or anyone for taking the money now or ever. It was offered. Same goes for Jerry Narron.

Harang and Arroyo certainly aren't the worst deals for performance in MLB, that's for sure. That said, they aren't the best either.
