Per Fay:

Lineup:

Edwin Encarnacion 5
Jonny Gomes 7
Alex Gonzalez 6
Craig Tatum 2
Micah Owings 1

Here is why we don't win. OPS+ is listed ahead of the player.

90 Chris Dickerson 9
55 Willy Taveras 8
168 Joey Votto 3
106 Brandon Phillips 4
82 Edwin Encarnacion 5
144 Jonny Gomes 7
43 Alex Gonzalez 6
-100 Craig Tatum 2

So we have two good hitters & one decent hitter in the lineup. Taveras & Gonzo are beyong abyssmal yet they have 558 PAs this year. This is yet another game I won't waste my time watching.

Well, this is novel...9 pitches and counting to start the game for Dickerson's AB. Great job to start the game, imo.

4-3 GO. thru 0.5, 1-0 Reds.

now the Reds have allowed at least 1 run in the 1st inning in every game post-ASB, save for one. Anyone wanna make any predictions here?

You say this like you're surprised. AGon is great on the balls that he can get to, but he has no range and no stick. These are things that are and will always be. ;)

I think you are right lark......but until you can show consistent control.....the ump is not going to give you those calls. He just pitches way to much on the periphery.

Best part was the Cubs announcers repeating how great the throw and tag was. And talking about how Dusty Baker is going to come out and get "his money's worth". Then they replayed the tag in slow motion and the Cubs announcers sat in silence they sheepishly cut to commercial without saying 1 word.

In retrospect, why would even risk the play at the plate there? You're down two runs and there's already an out. The sac fly makes out #2, so even if the run scores, you're still going to need a base hit to score the tying run. Meanwhile, a guy with a good arm is catching the ball in short right center on the run...

SirFelixCat

I'm not sure Fukadome has a good arm. Maybe somebody else knows.

It wasn't the ninth inning. If you have a chance to get within a run, you do it. It's the umpire's fault, not the decision to send him.

An umpire said to Jeter a few weeks ago he doesn't have to tag you as long as the throw beats you to the bag. Then the umpire denied saying it. But as a whole the umpiring has been really bad lately.
