I'm sure the Reds aren't getting anything of value for JHJ, but I'm glad to be done with that contract.

I'm calling it, the deal is for cash, which will in turn be used to help get the Rolen deal done.

Did JHJ sign a 2 year contract in the offseason?

Hairston on a team with a good manager is a pretty valuable player. With Dusty he turns into option number 1a.

Do we get back Drew Henson?

The winner of the deal?

Jerry Hairston.

I wonder how it feels to go from a crappy team with an empty stadium, to New York with a team thats a World Series contender.

On the other end of the coin, Adam LaRoche has to feel like crap. First with the crappy Pirates, then 'woohoo!' to the Red Sox. Then 'Crap' back to the Braves. I imagine it sucks for the players going from playoff teams to places like here where there's no chance.

We could have a winner here. Good call.

Top 5 Yankees prospect, center fielder, average and power, ain't coming here, will probably make the 40-man call-up, 23 years old...

Any word on return? Just cash and a pair of diamond tickets?

According to MLB.com, our return is a minor league catcher Chase Weems.

Weems is nothing special, saw him play the Lexington Legends. Mediocre batter with a good arm

Im sad to see jhj go. I always liked him and last yr always said if given the proper playing time he could get good. And what did he do.

He got Good. He'll be a fantastic back up/utility player for the yankees.

I dont think us losing JHJ is in anyway a good thing. Pretty much means were stuck and still focused on GONZO. :thumbdown

Weems will have the same impact in the major leagues that Devin Mesoraco will have : None.

Getting anything for JHJ is impressive, though.

They dumped Hairston, who can't get bunts down and doesn't hit in the clutch. How could you possibly be upset with that?

Im talking more about people saying this guy is on devin mesoracos level.

JHJ was always one of the more underappreciated players here at RZ. Versatile, good baserunner (except that time he got cut down stealing 3rd w/2 outs) and a respectable bat. Not a starter, like we tried to make him, but a really good guy to have on a roster. I'm actually surprised we got such a crappy return for him.

Weems, that is all the Reds got for him, a single A catcher that can't hit. Talk about giving away players. Guess we know how much Reds players are worth.

On the plus side maybe Coddington will be going to Sarasota.

saving money from JHJ contract is much more valuable than he was to this team.

Yeah, you nailed it. Plus, consider this. Weems is not another "no hit" catcher. Two positions in development a team can never have enough of, is pitching---(which the Reds are rife of)---and Catching, which they now have quite a few of, albeit at less than next year prospect. It could well be a position of strength in the next trading frenzy. Coddington, Bour, yes even Mesoraco, and now Weems? With Hanigan's strong Rookie season, it could develop into a position to bargain from.....

Yah, he will singlehandedly bring the Yankees a World Championship.

Hairston may be a star on this team but on any other team he is a role player.
