Poor, poor Hanigan for being so slow, and a catcher. ;)

Lehr Ks two that inning, including D Lee. No score, bottom one.

Nice to see the Reds starting off the game with two outs.

Two Ks for Harden, nothing for Reds.

KoryMac5

Welsh talking about the lack of a two hitter on the team. Stating that Hanigan may fit in that role, however he hasn't shown that he can hit higher in the order. Hanigan has exactly 4 at bats in the two hole Chris, talk about small sample size.

Yeah I was thinking "he couldn't have had that many at-bats in the #2 spot..."

I would also suggest we lack a one hitter as well.

KoryMac5
08-05-2009, 07:28 PM
Lehr getting sqeezed a bit, tough being a nibbler tonight.

KoryMac5
08-05-2009, 07:32 PM
Votto is quickly becoming a good defensive first baseman, not bad for a catcher.

KoryMac5
08-05-2009, 07:34 PM
0-0 going to the bottom of the second. Bruce will be interviewed at the top of the 3rd. I wonder if they will ask him any questions about Rolen.

KoryMac5

Nice hustle by Phillips, as he beats the throw. Welcome back Rolen HR.

Rolen looks like he could use some Rogaine.

1st and 2nd as Hanigan draws the walk. Lehr bunts poor throw leads to a run 3-0 lead.

I think we've seen many reasons why Jocketty wanted Rolen. He'll add offense which was sorely needed. As for Vlad, he is speedy, huh? Maybe that won't be a bad move either...

KoryMac5

Willy T brings no positives to this team, plain and simple.

Dickerson with the shaving cream and Gomes with the ice water down the back. At least Jay has a good temperment.

Slow, slower, slowest, and stopped. Gameday thinks his fastball is a changeup.

KoryMac5
08-05-2009, 09:12 PM
What type pitches is Lehr throwing?

Mixing an array of fastball, curve, and splitter. The curve is a big breaker with nice rotation, he doesn't throw it a lot but spots it well. Great job tonight mixing speeds and location.

HeatherC1212

IIRC, I think Willy actually has TWO infield hits tonight. One that the SS couldn't get to Lee quick enough and the other Ramirez couldn't get to Lee quick enough. He has two hits tonight and Joey has none.....the universe may implode before this game is over, LOL

Willy had two hits yesterday as well.

He would be a lot better off if he would only walk. He just doesn't walk, which is a big problem for a slap hitting leadoff guy.

KoryMac5
08-05-2009, 09:33 PM
Who would the Philles rather have right now Pedro or Lehr?

His lack of walks has been a big problem. However equally important has been the style of his swing. He uppercuts too many pitches, needs to stay on top to use his speed.

KoryMac5
08-05-2009, 09:37 PM

No doubt, you're totally correct. Still when he is in a good groove, like the last few games, he can get his share of singles. But the failure to walk is just impossible.

So now the question for the night is.....who gets Justin with the shaving cream pie in the face during his interview?! :D

Jonny Gomes got him - twice.

My oldest daughter called me when we were up 3-0 to tell me and said they'd interviewed Jay Bruce and he had his cast off. She has had a theory, which may have been validated tonight, that Jay had on a blue cast and we were losing to teams with blue in their uniforms (I think there was one exception in there). Anyway, now the cast is gone and we win. Who knew?

HeatherC1212
08-05-2009, 09:48 PM
And the answer to my previous question is Johnny Gomes and Chris Dickerson (I think, LOL). Loved the bullpen giving him a big group hug too, LOL

One thing is for sure: a start like this ensures that many will be clamoring for Justin Lehr to be a part of next year's plans for the rotation.
