Announcers just said no word as to why Rolen was scratched. But Rolen was on the phone after getting off the team bus, so it may be a personal issue.

Taveras-Gonzo are commonly referred to here as the worst 1-2 punch in baseball. I went through all of last nights games to see who was worst and it wasn't even close. Combined averages, Taveras-Gonzo are at .436. Second worse are the Royals at .504 with DeJesus/Josh Anderson. Taveras-Gonzo have 4 combined HRs, I highly doubt that factors in much. So yes, we have by far the worst 1-2 punch in baseball.

No doubt he's overpaid, but do we really want to trade Arroyo?

For complete relief from the next year of his contract and the full option buyout? Yes.

For partial relief? No.

If Reds can add back in the !0 or 11 million of his contract and avoid paying his buyout, I think they have to make the deal. In today's market, that money can go real far in the off-season.

If they have to pay a few million of the deal to get a taker, I would just keep him.

Hanigan's only had 190 AB's. If he's going to be a regular, he's going to have two and a half times that many--be two and half times as tired.

Very true. I got blasted for it, but I had a feeling as Hanigan played more that lofty BA and OBP would drop like a brick. Back to the norm, but man when he crashed he crashed.

The Reds will need more than a backup for Hanigan next year. They will need someone to split the position with him, perhaps a lefty hitting catcher. Or Hernandez at a reduced salary.

I'm not so worried that he doesn't hit in the clutch. That will come with experience. I'm more concerned that his bat has worn down as the season has progressed.

Sutton pinch-hits for Arroyo. Solid outing for Bronson- 7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 101 pitches, 70 strikes.

ok, very funny. What did he really say?

No, really, I could hardly believe it myself. He and the Cowboy were going off on how bad the numbers were for Taveras and Gonzalez at the top of the lineup, and Marty said, "The numbers don't lie, folks. You can spin it any way you want, but the on base percentage numbers don't lie."

Then the Cowboy said of the other team, "You always have Joey Votto up with no one on, and you can have your way with him."

Once again the anemic Reds got 6 hits and 2 runs, wasted a pretty good performance from Arroyo, and lost again on an error by our crack fielding shortstop. Even Marty, Jeff, Chris, George, and Thom are beginning to get testy. I just wonder if anyone in the FO is listening?

KoryMac5

You can also put some of the blame on Votto for not coming off the bag in order to cut that throw off.
